Advice on using my orange mobile in France

I need to use my existing uk orange when i visit France and wanted to ask if anyone has any advice on the cheapest way to call & txt the uk from France and also make calls within France. I have tried 'oneroam' type sim cards in the past and although you do not get charged to receive calls when roaming i find them unreliable and most don't have caller id & having to call the number & have wait for call backs before you are connected .I understand i will be charged to receive calls on my orange phone but i won't need to inform people of new numbers and miss calls i hope .
