  • Well, I'm moving to Scotland as a student and due to the rapidly progressing cell degeneration, called aging, my eyes and teeth are in dear need of attention. However, I think, I get the ole eyes checked first, I imagine that's the least painful procedure and if it's free ... so, will attend to the dentist situation later :o
  • Also, at Specsavers with an NUS Extra card you can get 30% off any pair of glasses

DS1 has been to D&A today for an eye test and says he didn't have to pay. He's 20 and a student. I don't know if this applies to all eye tests for students: D&A are pretty good at supplying vouchers for free tests anyway and I'd taken the precaution of equipping him with one of them anyway!

  • D&A currently have free eye tests running until just before university starts (for non-current customers only). Get your free eye tests booked now and you'll be good for another year by which time there will hopefully be more free eye test offers!

im not sure if this is still the case...

but i would hold off asking for a HC1 assessment until term begins again. this form is extremely in depth and looks at things like your rent payments etc, in order to work out means testing. since most students are unemployed during term time and paying rent, usually this means MOST students get free tests and glasses.

i seem to recall that the HC1 form does not take into account your parents earnings.

Well, we ARE current customers, and they didn't say he couldn't use a voucher when he phoned up and booked the appointment. I'll have to ask him if the voucher would have been accepted if he hadn't been a student - not that he'll know ...

It sounds strange, but is there a large Tesco Extra store close by? Their opticians department often runs buy one get one free on glasses and also do offers on eye tests.

I got an eye test, a pair of Kangol specs and a pair of perscription Kangol sunglasses all for £80. Well chuffed!
