I am sure that there are difficulties with retaining a Council property that is not your home...
However, there is nothing wrong with someone who is self-employed renting business premises.0 -
Your tenancy handbook or social housing landlord website will indicate its policy around living elsewhere.
Generally, it is a complete no-no when the social housing tenant does not live in their council/HA property as their primary address - it's usually a breach of the tenancy agreement and can lead to the landlord seeking possession. It's expected to be their primary address. However, you need to check the actual wording which may require you to notify the council of absences for certain periods and which will outline its rules around it being the primary address.
How long do you intend to be living at your friends and what does your tenancy say about absences?
Will your friend be issuing you with a tenancy agreement or an invoice for business services, for example, or neither? Are you actually resident there as part of a commercial activity on your part or is it a holiday/hobby activity, for example?0 -

I intend to use the other address for business, but I'm not sure whether that matters to the council or not.
Thank you.

Don't think it's the fact that it's a council house, but more the fact that the poster is getting housing benefit.
Can they rent a second home and still receive housing benefits on the first property.Laters
