Kitchen fitting quote

Options
Hi,

I have bought the following kitchen:

http://my-kitchen.howdens.com/plan/ueD8314680001Bbq

and been quoted £570 to fit it (excluding plumbing). Is that a fair price?

Cheers,

Tom

  • £570 to fit a kitchen?

Seems a bit too cheap if you ask me!

It does seem quite a cheap price, but in essence if the fitter is making the money on the cabinets then there is the potential to undercharge on the fitting...

What the OP doesn't give is the total cost of the kitchen bearing in mind that a howdens kitchen can be very heavily discounted to some puchasers in the trade...

only being told one element of the price rather than the whole makes it difficult to estimate whether something is value for money or not...what if the plumbing is quoted at a higher figure than standard plumbing, then it evens ot the quote a little.

It does seem cheap, but if no electrics or gas work is involved, it is unlikely to be more than two days work, and being Howdens, it is almost certain that the fitter is making some kind of a cut to allow the fitting to be that price.

We fit howdens kitchens, they aren't that cheap, there are cheaper places to buy kitchens.

The discounting is all a bit of blarney really, they say you are getting 70% or 90% off items but the items vastly overpriced pre discount.

That's a good price, very cheap. You can pay a lot more than that.

Thanks for reply guys. Sorry for not giving full picture. I bought the kitchen directly from Howdens for £1480. Joiner is not doing plumbing and there is no electrics apart from extractor hood (I am buying stand alone cooker, fridge, and washing machine separate). I can't remember if he is wiring extractor for that price but I don't mind either way as it will take me 5 mins to connect to fused isolator. Kitchen should be easy to fit, solid cabinets, only one cut on worktops, no cornices or any fancy business. I thought it was expensive but from what you guys are saying it sounds like a good deal.

Out of interest, can you post some of the prices you were charged by howdens for your doors and carcasses, we're fitting the same kitchen and i want to see if howdes have given us a good deal, or ripped us off :money:

I will report back with the prices they charged us if you do, so we can compare ;)

Very interesting. Around here, Howden's will not tell the customer anything whatsoever about the price of the units. All info. goes to the fitter, who then gives a price to the customer.

I've been getting kitchen quotes recently, and both your price for the units and the fitting seem very cheap to me.

I would say the fitter is getting well paid, probably could fit it in a day (If the original one is stripped out)
