Tax refund, how long?

My son changed his car in mid February and is still waiting for the tax refund, despite several calls and emails to the DVLA, who promise to 'look' into it."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Did you send section 9 of the reg doc to DVLA?0 -
The tax for your car expired the on the date you wrote as changing hands on the V5 you sent off. Regardless of whether they are still taking money from the previous keeper- that is the previous keepers issue, and they won't discuss this refund with you (even if the previous keeper was your husband).
You need to tax the car using your NEW V5 number or the 'new keeper' supplement of the old V5. The car will then be taxed in your name.
At the DVLA when the previous keeper send in the old V5 with new keeper details on they process that and then pass it to the tax refund department who deal with that. My car was written off in November 2014 and though the DVLA no longer has me as the registered keeper I haven't had a refund, because somewhere along the line the paperwork has been lost- they have now written to me asking for evidence that I purchased the tax, which I have sent them.
If the refund of the tax has got lost in the system somewhere that isn't YOUR concern- your concern is whether or not you get a fine for the car not being taxed when it should be- especially if your husband is expecting a refund from when he sent in the V5. So in short, get it taxed by you and get him to call the DVLA.0 -

Thanks for the further replies. Just to confirm I have taxed the vehicle in my own name!
And, yes, the DVLA did asked me to get my husband to contact them, but they did ask if he had cancelled the direct debit. (He paid the full year's tax at one payment, but we still cancelled the direct debit nevertheless which was listed in the DDs on his online banking, so hopefully that might trigger something off!)
Hate this new system though, it seems DVLA are making a lot more money off it as won't refund part months!!0 -

So you didn't send off the slip yourself?

DVLA works for the Goverment, the Goverment makes the rules which DVLA have to follow.
If you think that is bad, TV licence refund is only whole quarters left! (that is for another thread though).0 -

When you traded in the car you should have been given part of the V5 to send back to the DVLA yourself, they keep the main part. If they did not pass this on to your, or you have not posted it then no refund will be forthcoming.0 -

He had the letter from the DVLA notifying him that his is no longer the keeper of the vehicle so they have received the notification."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
