I've been using a Pi2 for the last month or so with no issues at all without a case, just sitting beside the TV. New case arrived, so fitted the case and now it's been sitting around 2 weeks as not had the chance to connect it all back up.
Connected it all back up and no display at all.
What i've done so far.
Tried different USB chargers (even official 5amp Blackberry one)
Removed SD card, then re-inserted.
Swapped HDMI cables.
Tried different HDMI slots on TV.
Remove LAN cables and USB keyboard / mouse.
Any suggestions?
Light on the board still comes on as normal.

Looks like SD card has died for some reason. Put it in the PC card reader to format it, and nothing detectedAll your base are belong to us.0

I used to use a Pi , admittedly not the newer Pi2 , I used it as a media centre , running Openelec , with TV (freeview channels ) and Istream for instant access to films , the SD cards (new) crashed on me several times , and I had a lot of rebuilding to do.
I then went out and bought the intel "nuc" 2820 (about £105) and a 4g memory stick and an old 30g SSD drive , mated with a std xbox one remote its brilliant!
total cost was about £170 , BUT
the cost of a Pi + card+ wifi dongle + case +PSU + flirk , soon adds up
the nuc is about 50 times faster and non crashable , if you fit a larger h/drive you can configure it to hold your films/music ,
big improvement , and a peacefull life0 -
Still a considerable cost more than a Pi2 imo.
Pi2 - £26ish
Case - £7
16GB class 10 Kingston Micro SD card £5
No wireless needed for me thankfully, ethernet. All your base are belong to us.0 -
yes indeed , but expect the corrupt card to be a common occurance , in my case I found a h/drive to be a better mode.
it depends what you are using it for ,
horses for corses , but I will not be going back to a Pi.
there is/was a free proggy that would "clone" (or store) a sd card on your computer , once you had done all the work setting it up.
can,t remember its name now,
when I was running the Pi on openelec (xbmc) and "feeding it" with a film/music library from my nas drive , it could take 2 hrs to catalogue about 650 films and about 15,000 audio tracks , with a nuc it takes about 15 mins
I know the Pi2 is a lot quicker , but it simply cannot compete with a 2.1g intel and 4 gig of memory.
your SD card @£5 sounds like it could possibly be a fake , I would suggest you try running H2testw 1.4 from http://www.heise.de/download/h2testw.html0 -
I had my Pi model B for about a year and a half with no issues.
I had a Lenovo nettop PC as well with quad core 1.8ghz and 4gb of ram but it was a pain to send videos and pictures from my android phone onto it over the network.
I don't use NAS and just use Openlec Kodi now for on demand stuff or sending youtube content or other stuff to my Pi.
I doubt Ebuyer will be selling fake SD cards

ok , not getting into agreements , but please test your new card when it arrives ,
if you are using it for openelec , you can do a backup from the control panel (*.tar file) , you can then copy this to your computer , save it , and if you have to reload , , copy it back via Ethernet to the backup folder and reuse it0 -
I've got five Pis doing various jobs, including software development, and I've had random failures of the SD card in several of them. Unix hacker that I am, I have my own process for cloning cards so can build a new one fairly quickly, but it is a pain.0

From an Old forum on Pi post
Add these two lines to /boot/config.txt and reboot.
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_drive=2
Notes
hdmi_force_hotplug=1 sets the Raspbmc to use HDMI mode even if no HDMI monitor is detected.
hdmi_drive=2 sets the Raspbmc to normal HDMI mode (Sound will be sent if supported and enabled).
Without this line, the Raspbmc would switch to DVI (with no audio) mode by default.0 -
I've had an SD card failure on my pi as well, it was running raspbian to provide my imap server (and http, mysql, ssh and svn servers as well).
They are super devices, but a bit lacking in processing power. I imagine the pi2 would be a big step up, but I bought a Dell R710 instead.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
