Cats messing in flower bed

Can anyone advise what I could a) use to bio-degrade cat muck without harming plants and b) deter them from going on there?
Neighbourhood cats have been using the flower bed outside my front door and it absolutely stinks now! I tried sprinkling curry powder around but it hasn't put them off at all.
If I have to move it, I'll probably vomit on the spot and have to scrub my hands with bleach, even if I have gloves on.

Are you sure it's a cat and not a fox? Fox poo smells awful, cat poo isn't that bad

Anyway, try lemon peel scattered around.0 -

Used Coffee grounds can be a good deterrent and are also good for the soil.
They don't like citrus either.
Annoying as it is they don't like doing their business on their own patch so if the above fails making it comfy for them sometimes prevents the pooping.0 -

I can spell it but I can't pronounce it :
The Weihrauch HW100 is just about the best compromise when it comes to affordable pest control. They can be had from respectable sources 2nd hand for a few £100's, with the added bonus that once the pest problem is sorted they can be sold on for pretty much the same as you paid.0 -
I haven't tried it but I've heard that splashing some male urine around can deter cats and foxes. Can you get hold of a cupful to apply once a week?
Something that seems to stop my own cat going in one of my flower beds (she uses the other one), is leaving old plants that have died back and look like straw. I like the wildflower look so it's not really out of place to leave them so could be an option if you don't mind. Or you could lay some thin canes fairly close together on top of the soil to prevent the cats being able to dig. They'd have to be quite closely spaced though - my cat just dug between canes that were 4 inches apart.
If you absolutely can't face picking up what's already there, maybe just add a layer of compost on the top. The poo underneath will go hard and stop smelling - eventually it will look like weird stones that are much easier to pick up as they don't smell.0 -
holly leaves strategically placed over the bed will !!!!! their feet and they will move on. I did it when my neighbour's cat decided to use my front garden as a toilet and it's not come back.

Some great ideas there, thank you folks! I will need to move it and try and deter them from trying again before my parents come over next, as they'll tut and sigh with as much disapproval as if I've cr*pped in there myself!:rotfl:
I've just covered up the exposed bits of earth with some planks for the moment.
Could certainly get a supply of male urine - there's the OH and 3 sons still living here, it was one of the sons who came home the other night and said there was 3 cats on the front lawn...probably queuing up to use the 'toilet'!Over futile odds

Try some bark chippings, they don't like the feel or the smell of them and they keep the weeds down too! £1.99 for a huge bag in Lidl at the momentAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
