Looks like paint
Xylene will remove tar and hammerite type paint, could be worth a go.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I can't remember the last car I had which didn't have a sealed battery. It must be at least 25 years since I last had to top up a battery (with distilled water). I have NEVER had to add acid. So why does the OP suspect battery acid?0

As mentioned it looks like something splashed onto it rather than something thats taken the paint away.
Tar or paint splashed onto it. Feel it and see if its a dip or a lump, the photo's make it appear like a lump.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
