Battery Acid

Am I right in saying that if battery acid spills onto a car body paint work it would obviously remove the paint but would also show a blister?

I have some strange brown patches that have appeared on my paint work the paint is totally smooth and is not blistered in any way and no paint has been removed just has these brown/black patches which almost looks like paint.

The only thing I can think might be the cause is battery acid though I think impossible as none spilled an no blistering, and been nowhere to attract it.

I have tried to T Cut polish but it won't remove so I would think rules out paint and tar and the surface is totally level and smooth.

Any ideas?

I've had similair marks caused by woodstain getting on the car when I parked close to a fence which was being painted by an enthusiastic teenager.

Good point but as far as I know it has been nowhere near paint or painting

Battery acid might remove the paint but only if it was left on there for some time.
If acid or some other corrosive had gotten onto the bodywork but was washed off not too soon afterwards, (by rain for example) it might only have damaged the lacquer coat and this might be what has discoloured.

Sulphuric acid will eat down to bare metal, in a matter of minutes (I know this from a car battery explosion). what you have could be as simple as a spilled drink. If you've ever seen the damage a boiled sweet can do, then you'd understand.

I have taken some photos although poor because taken inside and flash reflected.

Poorly repaired stonechips? The lacquer is now fading at a different rate to the rest of the car?
