OP, can they not just drive up and down the track?

The party is made up of ten adults and one child. But there are only two drivers (two not yet eligible to hire cars and others are non-drivers), so yes it is possible to drive up and down but it will be the same two people doing it. And, to be perfectly honest, it is not a drive I would do at night. The track is completely surrounded by woodland, but with steep drops on both sides as you go further up the track (which I estimate is about 100-150m high at its highest). At night it will be pitch black and something I would dread doing were we to go out for the evening.

Leave the car at the bottom and then walk up. Take a couple of torches, better than losing a few grand

Isnt this a chalet? Like in the mountains for skiing?

OP I dont think it being dark is an issue for driving. While visibility may be reduced.....I've never seen a car yet that didnt have headlights that illuminated the direction in which the vehicle is travelling.

I may be biased on the driving front though as around here, if you don't know how to drive up steep narrow roads then you may as well become a hermit.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I think the OP mentioned (possibly on their original thread) that some of the group aren't in a physical state to walk up the hill - which is why cars were suggested.

I thought it was more the fact it was 2km into town hence the suggestion to leave the car at the bottom of the last bit to the house.

Maybe it wasn't mentioned before as it wasn't a problem to others.

It's a problem for me as I've had a knee op. Fine-ish for walking but not up such steep slopes. Another member of the party is a fit-ish 87 year old. But, again, not ideal conditions, especially at night.

Oh, and sorry, the car can't be left at the bottom as it's single track that goes straight onto a main road. As the owner also lives on site a car on the track itself would block the way.

And it's really undoable to drive up the centre of the track with headlights on?

the description did say it enjoys an elevated position which would suggest it is up a hill.

Guess it depends on wether or not they should have mentioned a single dirt track rd
