    As a matter of interest what was the cancellable rate?

    The mistake you made was checking.

    Whenever I book hotels etc, I either book a cancellable rate, or I book a cancellable rate, then set a price in my head. I check back, and when the non cancellable rate hits the price I want I book and never look at the price ever.

    And your point on flights is not right, there's a sweet spot to booking most flights, about 6 weeks out I believe.

    I recently booked long haul flights for 10 months in advance, they went up and down in price for a few days, then hit a price I wanted so I booked. No idea what they're at now. There no point me knowing, and I'll only end up getting upset if they're cheaper!

    easy answer to this;
    book your room on a FLEXIBLE rate which allows you to cancel up to 1pm the day of arrival
    go and check the price the next day - if it's gone down book another room at the lower price and cancel the higher priced one

    easy :)

    Thanks all - yes, a lesson learned.

    Other events (under the heading life) meant that for years we hadn't been in a position to even think about hotels, so we haven't kept up with the way things have changed.

    Anyway, it is what it is and I won't be losing any sleep over it ;)

    Alongside the help and advice, the odd chuckle can be thought of as some compensation.

    The good night sleep guarantee is a goodwill gesture for those that have a valid reason for not being happy with their stay, and is generally given without quibble or further investigation. Why would you suggest the OP abuses this policy when the hotel has done nothing wrong?

    They do have a valid reason. They won't get a good nights sleep because they will be annoyed about the price they paid for the hotel.

    1. Our Good Night Guarantee does not apply where you do not have a great night's sleep due to circumstances that are beyond our reasonable control as hoteliers such as extreme weather conditions, fire, flood, lightning, earthquake, explosion, terrorism, war, civil disorder, epidemics, embargoes, labour disputes and power cuts.[/QUOTE]

    As the owners or website controllers didn't have any control over what day or time the OP chose to book the room, how can they be held accountable for this?

    Price quotes will vary, especially if looking at a different time of the week.. (work day / weekends?), demand/supply will also be a factor.

    P.S, clear out your cookies, too- repeat site visits shows people are still interested, and dare i say gullible..
