MSE News: 'Family tax': Dad's outrage as Ryanair tries to seat 3yo away from family

When I travel with my mother, I prefer to be sat elsewhere. She spends most of the flight asleep and we both want aisle seats. Just because you're travelling together doesn't mean you need to be glued at the hips.
I was livid, I deliberately didn't pay yet they still put us all together  This is not what I expect from a budget airline, it's a disgrace.
Next time we're going Ryanair.0 -
Simple answer- don't fly Ryanair. Preferably don't fly at all.
I know this sounds preachy but there are *loads* of alternatives- spend your money in this country, or take a trip on Eurostar.
Apologies to the minority of people who really *need* to fly, to see relatives or whatever, but as consumers we have a choice.
As long as we keep paying them, they will keep pulling stunts like this.0 -

This confirmed my guess that ryanair deliberately spread people to ensure they pay extra in future. Also having to book return in middle of 2 week holiday is another arm twist. Last time on ryanair if I can find sensible alternative in future.
It confirms nothing of the sort. Have you considered the possibility that the seven of you were allocated the next available seven seats? Seems a plausible explanation.
If you use this reasoning with all airlines, you'll fast find yourself staying at home.0 -
Happened to us on flights to and from Norway flying with SAS in January.
A quick word with staff when we were on the plane who talked kindly to a few other passengers and problem solved, we were sat with our toddler.
Dang, had I known about it there could have been a great story about my outrage and my solicitor wife!!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
I bet Jimmy Saville would have been more than willing to look after any unaccompanied minors who were seated next to him with their parents a safe distance away....I think....0

Exactly - we booked on Easyjet and refused to pay for reserved seats - but they still put all 4 of us together, me wife and 2 teenage kids!!

But, obviously, not enough to pay £12 to do so.
Obviously I paid since being more than 3 foot away from my wife for a couple of hours would have been unbearable.
Daughter went off to update her CV. Her dream is to work for a budget airline.0 -
I don't have children. I want cheap flights. I'm willing to risk not being sat near whoever I'm travelling with if it means I can save money.
Why should I have to subsidise people who choose to fly with children?0
