Phone suitable for use with Strava

Options
Ive gotten into cycling recently, and would like to use Strava to track my rides, only I dont have a smart phone.

(sorry cant post a link, google it)

The phone I would need would be Android 4 or above, and GPS, and obviously the ability to use Wi-Fi to get online.

Any ideas what amount such a phone would set me back

Do you have to use Strava ? Most smartphones have the ability or the apps to track cycling, running etc by GPS. The low end windows phones are good value.
  • not owning a smart phone, I am unaware of any other aps, and the cycling groups im part of make Strava look like a good ap

depends on how much you want to spend, strava is available for Android and iOS and there are so many phones available in all sorts of price brackets.

Flagship iphones / Android phones at about ~500
Great budget Android phones from about ~100 like the Moto G or Moto E.

And anywhere in between, have a read of some of the Moto G reviews online as its a great budget phone and will give you an idea of what you can get for £100 ish.

There are cheaper android phones but you would need to check their Android Version and capabilities.

If you want to use Strava you will need android or iPhone. It is not available on Windows Phone - the main reason why I won't get one.

Depending on the length of rides you do battery life is important as using gps hammers it.

I'd avoid a phone altogether and get a garmin. I have a garmin 500 and it has been in pretty much daily use now for 3 years. The 510 is the newer version. There is no need for the fancier ones with mapping.

If you only want strava there is also the 200, which you can get for about £80.
