I didn't intentionally sit down to memorise my NI number, but the first two numbers were my house number at the time, and the first number in each pair was the same as the last number in the previous pair (i.e. JJ 96 61 15 C) which meant I naturally had it memorised after entering it on a few application forms for my first part time job.

I used to do some freelance work for various employers and had to give my NI number each time so etched on my brain.

My NI number was just one of those things I instinctively remembered from the first time I was issued my NI card 30 Years ago. Its as memorable as my Birthdate.

I would think your NI number is always worth remembering, as this thread shows why in just one example of many.

Just apply for an International Driving Licence at any main post office. It costs £5.50 and, IIRC, you just need your plastic UK licence and a photo.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

The international driving license is intended to be a translation from English into a long list of languages so that cops from other countries can read it.
It is (apparently) not required in most U.S. states, you can hire and drive cars on UK license subject to insurance.

I had not heard that the Int. Licence could be a replacement for the old green form that used ot accompany the UK driving license. Car hire co's will still ask for the code.

Just use the licence from the country that you live in, I've lived in Northern Cyprus for 10 years so can't use my UK licence in the UK( though I do use it in Southern Cyprus), they accept My TRNC licence readily enough.
