Child benefit is currently £16.50 a week for your eldest child and £11.05 a week for your other children.
What is less well known is that once your household income reaches £25,000 your CTC payments are £10.40 (in total) per week. This is regardless of whether you have 1 ,2 or 3 children. This payment stays the same until you reach around the £50,000 bracket.

The income limits are considerably more if you have a disability(that puts you at a disadvantage of getting a job and you receive DLA) or have a disabled child/children(any rate of DLA care or mobility)

What exactly is confusing you? It's a bit of a complicated example, but it's basically showing the situation for a family with an income of more than £50K. They lose £1 for every £15 they earn over this amount - or 6.67%.

If you think you need to understand this example, let me know.

I've never had a penny of CTC, I never knew I was entitled to claim. My youngest son who is disabled is now 17 so I guess he'll never have any. Why isn't there an organisation that lets you know you're entitled? Because my son is disabled and gets DLA we always thought he couldn't get it.

It can't be backdated - no retrospective claims allowed. There was a press campaighn on tv, radio, newspapers, magazines etc. ('Its money with your name on it'). Thats what they will tell you if you tell them you didnt claim coz you didnt know. Theres a few websites you can try if you want to find out if your entitled to anything. You might still be entitled to tax credits if your son is in education.

That isn't true. I have 3 children and my husband earns about 33k per year and we were entitled to just under £1800 per year. When Dd went to uni, it dropped dramatically to the minimum. It does depend on the number of children you have. And the rate of Child benefit for the oldest child is £18.10 per week.
