Thank-you everyone for your input....I suppose the only thing I can do is try..the worst it will be is exactly were I am right now. Thanks again.

Good luck! Let us know how you get on. It might be useful to others in the same situation.

This type of organisation thrives on deceit and obfuscation.

Good luck with your attempts to get back the proceeds of crime, but I fear you'll be unsuccessful.

No, they thrive on people failing to read what is right in front of them. I might question their ethics but they're certainly doing nothing illegal.

It is always worth a try asking them to refund you as a gesture of goodwill however the fact you're telling them you're not going to use them again may reduce the amount of sympathy they have for you - it is a business after all.

The company itself has followed all of their terms and conditions so even if you were to escalate this to their regulator, it would be seen that they have done more than enough to advise you of the cost. (especially with monthly emails)

I understand just deleting spam from your inbox however if a company you have bought from consistently tries to contact you once a month, around the same time, surely at one time or another you would have thought about reading what they have to say? And not seeing this on your own statements until now? It would only been seen as handling your finances irresponsibly by the regulators.

Ultimately, a company has an obligation to make their ts&cs clear and understandable, it is the customer's responsibility to read them in the first place. As you will have learned, failing to do so comes at a cost only incurred by you.
