Rings are made out of soft metals. The more higher the karat, the softer the gold will be.

It doesn't need to have been knocked, carrying something heavy may have damaged it, or holding on to something tight.

It physically can't just bend without some outside force, and by virtue of being gold is susceptible to bending, so you're unlikely to have a valid claim.

Next time buy her a stainless steel ring. She'll have a harder time knocking that out of shape.

Not only will the softness (carat) of the gold have a bearing, but also the thickness of the band. Cheaper rings often have a groove cut out of part of the inside of the band to keep the cost down whilst giving the illusion of width. Like many things you get what you pay for - my engagement ring and wedding band have been worn daily for 9 years with no distortion in shape, but they are substantial platinum bands which were very expensive.

    Hello Everybody,

I am in need of some urgent advice.

I bought my girlfriend an engagement ring just over 2 years ago, she is a hairdresser so during the week she doesnt wear it and sometimes forgets to wear it at night also, so she doesnt get a lot of wear out of it.

The other day she noticed after she took it off it had bent quite bad, she hasnt knocked or damaged it and was only sat around the house wearing it.

Will i able to claim a refund or exchange on this? I know it is 2 years old but surely it has not been built to last as an engagement ring should last longer than 2 years, we get married in 3 months and the wedding rings (also bought from the same place) will probably not sit flush against the engagement ring.

The ring is white gold and cost 650 pounds, and paid by credit card.

    Thanks
    Steven

I paid not much less than that for my wife's engagement ring, and it is still fine.

Mind you, that was 27 years ago ... you get what you pay for. :)

I wonder if the Op's partner to be had it out when Uri Geller was "doing his thing" if so perhaps getting in contact with him MAY sort the problem out.

I have small cuts to fingers on both hands that I've no idea when/how they happened. Just because I don't remember getting the cuts doesn't mean they didn't happen.
