Faulty Engagement ring, advice needed.

Options
Hello Everybody,

I am in need of some urgent advice.

I bought my girlfriend an engagement ring just over 2 years ago, she is a hairdresser so during the week she doesnt wear it and sometimes forgets to wear it at night also, so she doesnt get a lot of wear out of it.

The other day she noticed after she took it off it had bent quite bad, she hasnt knocked or damaged it and was only sat around the house wearing it.

Will i able to claim a refund or exchange on this? I know it is 2 years old but surely it has not been built to last as an engagement ring should last longer than 2 years, we get married in 3 months and the wedding rings (also bought from the same place) will probably not sit flush against the engagement ring.

The ring is white gold and cost 650 pounds, and paid by credit card.

Thanks
Steven

Rings don't just bend by themselves, take it to a jewellers and they will straighten it for you.

As above, rings don't just bend. She must have knocked it or something without realising it. There is no other explanation.

    It s easily straightened.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

How can you be so categoric? Accidental impact damage is very easy to do, and without even realising it. So I echo what the others have said - she HAS knocked it but simply doesn't remember doing so.

If you try to go down the SOGA route you'll (probably) need to prove the ring was inherently faulty. This may mean commissioning a report from a qualified person; and when that person examines the ring they'll almost certainly spot impact damage. Even if the retailer agrees to provide a resolution, they do not have to provide a full refund - far from it. (They'd most likely agree to repair the ring - and if they do you should gladly accept this offer).

I bet £3.56 that it was Uri Gellers mind that bent it.

But rings DO NOT bend of their own accord surely you must understand this?

Take it down the jewellers and get it straightened out like you were told in post #2

No-one is accusing you of lying, stop being so sensitive.
People are simply saying that a metal ring will categorically *NOT* bend of its own accord. You need to apply a force to metal to make it bend.

Rings are made out of soft metals. The more higher the karat, the softer the gold will be.

It doesn't need to have been knocked, carrying something heavy may have damaged it, or holding on to something tight.

It physically can't just bend without some outside force, and by virtue of being gold is susceptible to bending, so you're unlikely to have a valid claim.

Next time buy her a stainless steel ring. She'll have a harder time knocking that out of shape.

If you want advice that doesn't involve anyone trying to tell you that it must have been damaged as metal doesn't just bend of its own accord
