    Hello all,
Not got as much crossed off my list as I'd hoped because of having to wait in for a parcel.....then when it arrived, it wasn't the one due to arrive today, so I still had to wait in for the actual one I was expecting. Great to get a couple of decent gifts put away into the presents box though. I also bought one at the Festival. I prefer to buy gifts all year round if I see something affordable which I think the person will love.
Today's bits of money saving while waiting in:
*Decided what to put on jacket potatoes tonight (Thursday is usually jacket potato night - great way to use up odd portions of stuff in the freezer).
*Washed kitchen door curtain while it's such a good drying day outside. V thick curtain which would otherwise need heat to dry it.
*Ironed the minimum amount of clothes in the laundry basket that I could get away with - 1 top & 3 shirts, not too bad.
*Sorted out small pile of mending I need to do before camping trip.
*Cleared stair basket, including financial filing, receipts to go on my bulldog clip, all those little bits & pieces which keep us organised & on track.
*Did a couple of little money transfers between savings pigs to get all the owings correct. Gave mr f £10 from presents pig to get his Dad a Father's Day gift. I will bake a cake to post to my Dad. I've got everything I need to make him a sticky ginger cake & it will be easy to pack & post too.
    *Did lots of surveys.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks....managed to incorporate last of the carboardy tortilla wraps.
    Still to do after lunch:
*Pick lettuce for my big salad tonight.
*Weed out lorry tyre & plant it with a courgette.
*See if I can find any space for the remaining courgettes, as I've currently only managed to find space for 5. We need to eat some serious amounts of lettuces to make space.
*Water all food crops & feed tomato plants & cukes which are just starting to fruit.
*Find new home card from stash to sent to friend.
    *Knit more sock.
Just had text from mr f to say that the £20 expenses claim he put in mid-March, which mysteriously 'went missing' has reappeared & he will be able to collect the cheque today, so that's good.

Ziggy - I bet those painkillers had codiene or something similar in. I used to have to take a paracetemol/some sort of codiene brand for atrocious period pain & while they were excellent painkillers, I didn't feel safe to drive if I'd taken them. They were what I gave mr f for a v bad headache that time & he started getting a racing heartbeat & was physically shaking, as well as saying he just felt very odd. I bet the ones from your neighbour were something similar. Because of my aspirin allergy, I always have to study the packet to make sure these blends don't include any aspirin or ibuprofen. Usually, paracetamol are fine for me, as they are either just that, or with caffiene or codiene, but one pack mr f bought for himself & I nearly took by mistake, were paracetamol with aspirin. He's taken those to work so I can't accidentally take one if I've not got my specs on. I wouldn't knowingly ever take aspirin again. Described symptoms to GP & he said it was mild anaphalaxis (mis-spelled, I'm sure), which could be more severe next time, so I just make sure my medical notes say I can't have it.

  • Hey all

Sounds like you all have lots of excellent mse things going on today. It's also a gorgeous day here which is good.

Bob - the new bank account has 5% interest on balances up to £2000 so I will put some of our savings in there. This is about 10x more interest than my savings account!

I also found a place where wild strawberries are growing :)

My two's shoes are looking scruffy too, it always makes hubby laugh that I won't replace them as theres only a few weeks left (well its not as if they're too small, just a bit scuffed!) He says (and rightly I suppose) that I wouldn't send them to school with them come September, so why is it ok now? hmmm (I hate it when he's right! lol)

I think that you (and Bob) are right on this tbh Hannah. I ONCE bought new school shoes for my children at the end of the summer term, and guess what? The little monkeys had only grown a size by September

Goodness Foxgloves, I think you will need to eat some serious amounts of courgettes too, if you plant all those  :rotfl: I find that one plant produces plenty for OH and I - and even then I always seem to find a random marrow when one 'escapes' :p

Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker Car Insurance Carver! Debt-free and Proud!
Just refreshed cupboards which are not looking too bad, but realised I will go over food budget to £275 instead of £250. Aargh.

I realised it would be a tight month with lots going on so really probably not too bad. Think there is booze in one of the orders for a visitor, if I take this out it might make a difference.

So lovely to see people.x I mean to enjoy the fun and not worry too much about the cost.
    Keep smiling everyone.

Not going near food cupboards again today. Only allowed to shower and knit!!!!

Suppose it is better to know now than to have to get car out and drive to shop.
    Ho hum.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

Dawn & Hannah - Yes I feel the shoe thing is a waste of time over the summer. I dont know that his feet would grow that much, hes a slow growing boy it would appear, but I'd rather save my ££ to buy a nice new pair for the start of term. Most of the kids are looking a bit wild around the edges at this stage :)

Carrie - That sounds a great financial move.

Yorkshire - Really hope your tooth doesnt need a crown. OH has had a broken tooth for months that he keeps meaning to get sorted but always something better to spend the money on.

Maria - We are in a funny position as we both have good pensions already, built up. Due to both working in big blue chips for several years. I then had a break from contributing for about 4 years, but started again at the beginning of this year. But I was lucky that I started my pension at 22 so its built up quite nicely. But I have no emergency funds to really speak of & CC debt, so it feels a bit topsy turvey :)

Ziggy - So glad you were ok. It does sound very scary indeed.

Twiggy - Your back :)) Good luck with the job!

JoJo - I walked into a bomb site of a kitchen tonight. Really hate it when we run late in the mornings & I have to pack away breakfast things, unload dishwasher etc, before I can do my evening routine, so sympathies. I am so looking forward to the weekend to catch up!

Ratison - Yes Im 6 months, its gone quick. Thank you!

Crawley Girl - Well done on your list!

Hannah - Hope DS's cricket goes well!

Foxgloves - Your ginger cake sounds delicious. Care to share the recipe?

A good day all in all. A nice steady days trade. Could have done with a bit higher ££ but I am pleased overall, & I also had a £100 party booking for July which is brilliant. Really hope she does the transfer for the money before next week.

Did YS meat balls for sons tea, & we'll finish them off tonight.

    Reconcilled banking.

Managed to squeeze a lunch box out of the general oddments for sons lunch tommorow. Saves buying new stuff till sunday.

Cycled all my journies, took water with me to avoid any spends on drinks on way home from school.

Tum is fine now to those that enquired. Hoping for a better night tonight.

    Night all

    Bob

Hello everyone! Hope you are all okay and enjoying the lovely weather that has finally arrived. Ive been MIA for a bit, not for any exciting reason, just havent got around to it, so Im sorry:o

I have been doing lots of online surveys recently and settled on a few sites I think worth persevering with:

Nectar Canvas - generally sensible surveys, pay nectar points within 2days usually, I do maybe 3 surveys a day and have made about £10 worth of points this week.

Inbox Pounds - between surveys, search, tasks and paid emails I have made £9 this week, need £20 to cash out.

Global Test Market - don't get so many from them and annoyingly seem to be screened out of more than I am approved to complete, but in a week I have earned enough for a £3 Starbucks card and nearly enough for a £5 Starbucks/Boots voucher so worth persevering I think.

Any others you find worthwhile please? I am saving my Nectar points to get a fancy espresso maker I think :j

Spent far more than I intended today, without that much to show for it really:o However I am going into hospital for a week/10days tomorrow and some of what I bought was munchies/toiletries to take with me. It looks like I will be having lots of tests requiring sedation which will hopefully reduce the amount I spend on coffee while I am there!:rotfl: I also have my laptop loaded up with lots of films etc so I don't feel tempted to pay the silly money they charge to watch tv:eek:

Not sure how much I will be on here, there is free wifi but it isnt always very fast, but I will try to pop in when I can.

    Have a good weekend!

Bob, the cricket wasn't the result they wanted (lost 3/3) but he said they were close matches and he enjoyed, which is all that matters. So proud of him as last year he wouldn't put himself up for any of the competitions but this year he was chosen to take part in swimming competition and then this cricket one so I'm hoping it gives him more confidence (I don't want him to follow in my footsteps of low self esteem, anxiety etc)
Hope that bank transfer for the party comes through!
