Thursday 11th June - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

    Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning
    Thanks for the start Ziggy :) hope you are over your bad reaction.

    NewlyFrugal- I read your response on yesterday's thread and I'd say you have taken some great steps there. If I was your son (s) I think if get the message that the lady's not for taking the Micky out of pretty damn quick. Good for you!

    Really horrible night. Bad tummy. I think pregnancy related rather than anything else. So today will be interesting.

    just been down to grab some line dried clothes to wear and will switch the load that is still in the machine over before I go.

    OH has just been running me through the benefits he has bought so far using his new company benefit scheme. He has gone for 3 weeks extra holiday (he got 28 as standard) so this is fantastic. As his paternity leave was shocking -3 days full paid, we can use that to offset. He has put his pension up to 6% using 2% by points and this means the company will match that so he'll have 12% going in each month. Again really great.
    We are now trying to decide on what to use the rest for. We don't want any extra cash each month to avoid losing CB.

    Noticed little boys school shoes are looking quite scruffy but with 3 weeks left till the long break I think we will have to manage.

    Hope everyone is ok on this sunny morning.

    Morning everyone

    Thanks Ziggy. I have toothache following a replacement filling last week. I have a feeling that if I go back the dentist will want to put a crown on my tooth and I can really do without spending £200 on that so I am trying to ignore it. It may settle down. The annoying thing is that the old filling wasnt hurting!

    Lovely morning here, one load of washing out, another in the machine. Getting a new car on Friday (well an 07 plate car, not quite brand new) so need to check the best balance transfer deals. We will need to borrow £1000 I think.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi All

    Thanks for starting us off Ziggy.

    Bob good luck with the pregnancy and great news about DH job. I am a huge fan of pensions and if ever feel low am inclined to stroke a pension statement for comfort! (Not literally!) Is very nice to know that when no longer able to charge around working will be OK and able to enjoy a normal life. Will not be luxurious but OK.

    Today will deep clean DD room with her. Just back from UNi and not started unpacking. At lunch 3 friends of DD are arriving for 3-4 days.

    Hopefully another NSD.

    Silage clamp is sealed and covered in recycled tyres to keep it sealed. No accidents. Sun shone. Men have moved on to the next farm and we have done our 1st cut of the harvest. Quality looks fabulous but quantity is low, not surprising given the cold spring. The warm april was too early for our ground.

    Hurrah.

    Back to work friday.

    Have a good day all. Maria

    Morning all, thanks for starting us off Ziggy, and I hope today is a better day for you.

    Bob - I must have missed pregnancy talk! Big congratulations, and I hope the little one stops doing backflips in your tummy to stop it feeling bad!

    Yorkshirelass - that's exciting about a new car, hopefully you can make the numbers work and get a good deal.

    Maria - I know what you mean about loving having a pension, though sadly as I work in the NHS mine is getting less and less strokeable! I probably have another 30+ years until I'll see mine, so it should be nice and big!

    Dawn, was going to say that I hope you have a nice peaceful day following the tiring one yesterday, but your list seems very busy!

    Twiggy welcome back, and everything crossed for the job. Asda do those big silver number balloons if you wanted a 6 and 0 for your mum. Hope she enjoys the party.

    Jojo, glad you're feeling fresher today after a good night's sleep.

    My list is short:

    NSD, all meals from stores
    Plan to clean and tidy the house tonight using stardrops (the best stuff ever)
    Do the I-say survey I've been emailed about
    Ask my dad what he wants for Father's Day (dads are so hard to buy for)

    On the cleaning note, does anyone have a good DFW solution for cleaning dirt patches from a carpet? Our house has cheap cream ones, which will be replaced asap, but in the meantime, I need to give them a spring clean.

    Morning all, Its a very cloudy start to the day here, I hope it perks up a bit as ds1 is taking part in a cricket competition between various schools (its the first time he's been picked so he was very pleased when he came home last night!)

    Thanks Ziggy for the start, glad you are feeling ok now after that bad reaction.
    Jojo, glad you are feeling better today.
    Good to see you back posting here Twiggy and will keep fingers crossed for you.
    Hope you have a nice day Dawn
    Glad it all went well Maria
    Yorkshirelass hope the toothache wears off, I know how you feel, I recently had a filling (no previous pain) and then pain after :(
    Bob, hope your tum's feeling better now? My two's shoes are looking scruffy too, it always makes hubby laugh that I won't replace them as theres only a few weeks left (well its not as if they're too small, just a bit scuffed!) He says (and rightly I suppose) that I wouldn't send them to school with them come September, so why is it ok now? hmmm (I hate it when he's right! lol)

    Todays list
    * Kids free breakfast at school :)
    * Gym 1/2hr pt session :)
    * Filled water bottle at gym :)
    * Shower at the gym, make the most of their hot water/elec :)
    * Check banking/update spreadsheet :)
    * Wash a load at 30 degrees :)
    * Washing on line :)
    * Leave purse at home when taking ds1 to swimming lessons, stay away from the vending machine
    * Make a date cake, to use up some ood dates
    * Make soup with leftover veggies and whatever else needs using up :) on the hob now :)
    * All meals from stores
    * Swagbucks :) running apps now
    * Check shopit/cos/clicksnap etc
    * check FPL (missed a few days I think :( )
    * Continue clean up using cleaning stuff from use up box
    * Use up some handcream
    * Sort out at least 1 kitchen cupboard
