Neighbours Front Garden

Hi everybody,

We have a neighbour a few doors up who has had a worn out sofa on his front yard for about 18 months. When we first moved in, I assumed he was probably in the middle of renovation (I can relate...it's not always easy to get a skip straight away!) but over a year later it is still there.

I won't lie...it's ugly. We live on a nice looking road with lovely views and every morning when I walk to work, it's there, destroying any kerb appeal our street has. It's also a main road so we need all the help we can get!

I know it's privately owned (all of the properties are except one) and it's his land so he can do what he wants but is there anything I can do to try and influence the movement of this worn out sofa? I really don't want to cause any issues or risk a disagreement on his doorstep (I think I'd be a bit taken back if some randomer knocked on my door) telling me to tidy my front garden, even if it was a tip) but seeing this pointless piece of furniture on my daily commute is starting to bug me a bit.

Totally a first world problem and I have millions of other issues I could/should be thinking about but any advice (other than "get over it") would be welcomed!

Please see above - this advice has already been offered by my other half but I prefer to know my options!

Id go and knock on the door and ask if hes planning on getting rid of it anytime soon. You dont need to be confrontational or rude, just ask the question.

Hes probably just gotten complacent about it. Does your local council offer collection? Ours pick up to 5 items for £35. Maybe you could ring the council on his behalf?! :)

Hire a skip yourself and offer to take it off their hands.

We're due to start work on our bathroom soon and I'm sure this will require a skip, so I'll definitely keep this in mind.

In regards to the environmental health suggestion, I was considering that but thought perhaps it might not fall into their criteria. I could always say I saw a rat peeping out of it...:p
