But then you'll look at whatever has been refreshed and could miss all sorts happening. You can't see everything in your mirrors.0

we have very good traffic management systems in this country which is idiot proof. Everyone stays in lane, follows traffic light signals which are very visible and hard to find a junction in the city without traffic lights. Minor roads give way to major roads of which all junctions clearly identify which road must yield way.
Britain has THE most safest roads in the world because of our excellent traffic management system.
having said that, can you tell me of a scenario you can think of where you're stuck in commuter traffic, average speed 3mph (stop start traffic). In which you have your tablet running and hit send & receive while stationary and then proceed to drive on (checked your wing mirror, looked either side to make sure pedestrians aren't cross and then took your foot off the brake and drove on.0 -

All that yet we still have accidents because fools can't handle it and some wish to introduce distractions.0 -

Mumbai population; 12M (2001)
Mumbai road accident deaths: 662 (2008)
London population: 8.3M (2013)
London road accident death: 10 (2014)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you think a human being can't simply glance at their email while their vehicle is idle in traffic and then forget about the emails and drive on safely you have a very low confidence in the human psyche.0 -

Depends where you get your figures from.
29 in 2013 according to the bbc.
Transport for London recorded 132.

Over 23,000 recorded collision with injury and you want to drive round reading your emails and wearing oversized headphones.0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
If your driving, then concentrate on driving, not emails.
Why would you want to be checking emails anyway?
The problem is that you click send/receive then move off but then notice out of the corner of your eye the list of unread emails, the temptation to "just glance" at the screen to see if it is anything important will be too much.0 -

If you were looking down at your tablet whilst a dog/child/box cut across what would be your peripheral vision, and you pulled out into it.
Or you were looking down in stationary traffic and didn't notice the car in front rolling back towards you.
Or you were looking down in stationary traffic, didn't notice the traffic moving or the cars beside you trying to get into your space.
Or you were looking down in stationary traffic and didn't notice the emergency services lights in your mirrors.
If you're only hitting refresh and looking immediately back up, what's the point in refreshing? Why not just look at the road? You know well enough that if there's a new email you'll open and read it hoping that you notice anything else happen.0 -
I cannot believe we even need to debate this point. If people do not have enough will power to ignore other tasks like email and your phone whilst driving a motor vehicle they do not meet the required standard to drive on public roads.
They are not just distracting themselves they also distract the driver in front and behind who have to be extra vigilant to their erratic driving.
Cyclists also take an extremely dim view of such idiots as they have the potential to kill somebody due to be distracted.0 -

The opposite order, I think
The police instructor who took me for my advanced bike test said he wanted to see a ride that was "safe, smooth and quick - in that order".
When you get the three together, it's pretty awesome. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
I'm interested in knowing the answer to the OPs question, "is a mounted tablet legal?"
I've read 30 responses and am none the wiser, could someone please give the correct answer.0
