migrating from BT Broadband - incentives to stay

Options
Hello All,

Three weeks ago I spent a frustrating 48 minutes with the BT Broadband Indian "helpdesk" who speak perfect English but can only work from a script .

They assured me that my BT Broadband service was not working because AOL had taken over as my ISP !! ( I have never used AOL)

I recalled that in a MSE forum a MAC request seems to get things moving. I demanded my MAC number (to migrate to another ISP).

I was swiftly transferred to a charming bloke in Doncaster who cheerfully admitted his job was to ensure I stayed by offering sweetners.

Firstly,he promised to expedite my Broadband service repair. (it was "on" within 2 hours ).

He then started by offering £4 a month discount for a year.

"Not enough" I said

How about a free wireless router ?

"No" I said.

He then offered a free install of the BT Vision PVR with no rental.Customer only pays for the movies etc they order. As I never watch TV movies I was interested.

He did say if I accepted these offers I would be tied to BT for another year.

Anyway , I agreed and a week later 2 BT engineers spent a day installing the PVR & new wireless router system and upgrading all my wired sockets in the house.

The BT Vision PVR works just like my existing Sky+ PVR but uses the Freeview channels. In fact , I rarely use Sky Sport or Movies so I may cancel Sky as the BT Vision PVR fills all my TV needs . BT will get no movie rental income from me tho'.

So: money off, a wireless router and a 160gb PVR .

To my mind a result.

As I had no intention of changing my BT service I am a happy bunny and when my year is up I shall see what extra goodies are on offer from BT.

Anyone with a BT Broadband account perhaps should try asking for their MAC number to see what is offered.

Good luck

MartinF

Why not offer the lower price to everyone as a matter of course???

Martin F, You're v lucky to get what you got. When I asked for a Mac code all they offered was £5 reduction per month. So instead of paying £30 pm I would pay £25pm (inc line rental of-course) I declined as you can get Sky with BB for £15pm plus line rental which is same as BT and he was like - no worries, here is your Mac code.

I'm still with BT as prob moving home in Oct, so no point in starting a new contract with anyone, but I'll try them again, but £5 reduction is crap compared to deals that are out there at the moment.

Just given it a try and saved £5 per month on the broadband (option 2) and also given BT Vision with free installation and free connection which saved another £30!!!

  • Just thought i'd share my new deal.

I was about to leave bt broadband so i called the number below and pushed and pushed & now my old deal of 24.99 per month for bt broadband option 3 has now changed to a better deal off six months free but an 18 month contract, whiuch takes payments down fro £24.99 to £16.66 per month

Hope this helps, remeber they are a machine and they ultimatley need you as a customer , so keep pushing and pushing untill you feel you have the best deal for you, judging by the results below, i have achieved a veryu good deal, good luck

Frustrating thing is that I'm not with BT but am considering moving (BT would be a strong possibility). If I was offered a deal like that I'd probably jump at it but the headline deals of 6 mths discount on a 18 mth contract just aren't that special.
