I traded in my old car at national dealership chain on Friday 29th May and picked up a shiny new one from them. My old car had a private registration plate on it and in order to transfer it, the dealer took a payment of £80 from me and sent off a cheque to the DVLA, along with the old V5C form. The 1-day thing is a new gov't online service. Unfortunately for everybody here, it was down at the time - yet the OP voluntarily went through with the deal anyway, despite knowing that.
