Thanks for everyone's help; as I didn't understand the 150 reference made earlier I did a more extensive search engine check with these results:
150 would be used if you had a BT line to get through to BT. It may also be used to get you through to Sky if you had a Sky line - can't remember on that one though.
As you were quoting BT's charges for calls made to Sky's 0333 number ( would be the same call charge if it was to a 01/02 number though ) - do you have BT as your line rental supplier? If so weekend calls up to one hour are free so phone Sky then.
If you could tell us who you do have line rental with we might be able to suggest how you could phone Sky? Most landline providers have free weekend calls as part of their basic line rental package.0 -
Op, you do have a contract with Sky, until you cancel, but you are out of minimum term (usually 12 months from a taking a new service or upgrading). Leaving in contract is penalty free, provided that you give the required notice (31days), but if in minimum term there could be a payment dependant on how long is left of your minimum term.0

I'm fairly sure you cannot cancel Sky on line via the website and your account settings, it tells you call or use web chat, if you call and are not a Sky Telephone customer the call is going to cost you a few £'s, while they confirm who you are , and try to convince you not to cancel ( and the time waiting to 'your call is important to us' ) , with web chat you need to be prepared to spend upto 90 minutes until they accept your decision to quit and process your request,
Sky appear to do everthing in their power to make cancelling as difficult as possible,0 -

I cancelled my Sky subscription in early May this year with one phone call on a Saturday morning. It took about 10 minutes on my BT line and didn't cost me a penny in call charges.
And the phone calls with the offers started within five days and I was back in harness with another (my fifth) half price deal. All trouble free and not a penny spent in phone calls."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
I phoned Sky up Sunday just gone to cancel, gave 31 days notice, told them the cost was too much. They did offer me a deal but turned it down..
The phone number I called was 0800 0466431
this gave a list of options and I pressed 2 which took me to a sales advisor who in turn put me through to cancelations.
Good luck0 -

I had a letter from Sky telling me that my TV package was going up £2/month to £30, not a lot compared to what some pay Rupert per month, but it doesn't seem very long ago it was £24/month, I don't have Sky Sports, it's pretty obvious that to pay for the mega ££ premier league football deal they were making all TV customers subsidise those who take sports, instead of just putting up the Sports price, and I'm sure it was a 0844 number quoted on the letter, although the website does now show a 03 number that's charged the same as 01,02 numbers, this must be fairly new as calls to cancel did cost the caller unless the caller was a Sky phone customer, the pertinent point was though, you cannot cancel via your Sky account, you have to contact them, which gives them the opportunity to try and get you to change your mind about cancelling, which may include an offer to pay less in return for a new minimum term, or may just be emotional blackmail, like won't your kids , spouse, family miss program x,y or z, implying you are a bad person for denying them something they enjoy0 -
Calls to 03 numbers cost the same as calling 01 and 02 numbers and count towards inclusive allowances on landlines and mobiles. This Ofcom rule has been in place since 2007.
Most people have inclusive calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers. This is often the most cost effective way of making calls to these numbers. If you don't have inclusive calls then you could be paying as little as 1p per minute or as much as 15p per minute from a landline or as little as 3p per minute or as much as 45p per minute from a mobile depending on your price plan and provider.0 -

Why would anyone use an expensive 0844 number to call Sky when they can use the 03 numbers that will cost far less and are often "free" as part of included call bundles?
Please ignore the above advice.0 -

I explained the details of this scam in sections 5 and 6 of the first post in this thread:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5360819
Since 13 June 2014, post-sales helplines are no longer allowed to use 084, 087 or 09 numbers. Using these numbers for sales lines is a well-known 'sales prevention technique'.
All 084, 087 and 09 numbers are premium rate. The premium is the additional Service Charge paid to the benefit of the called party and their telecoms provider.
Most organisations have swapped their 084 or 087 numbers to the matching 034 or 037 number. Sky has made this swap, but if you call the old numbers there is no advisory that a cheaper number is available. Check Sky's official website for the correct 03 numbers to call.0
