Wouldn't mind doing that instead of squishing them.

    Thanks

Oooh, couldn't tread on them, the thought of the noise and the sensation is horrible.

I don't know where they are coming in as the garden is fully enclosed by walls so they must have been here for ages and just got a city of snails going, probably on their 25 generation by now! Their sizes range from little one to stonking huge ones about an inch or more across. Snailizzla land.

Thanks Dave - I shall stick to snail hunting and relocating in the field opposite.

    They can climb you know

They also lay eggs by the million

I have a walled garden full of snails. Some have flying lessons and others die drunk. A few eat the pellets I put around very delicate specimens although I don't like using them.

Reminds me of the time when my boys were small - probably about 5 & 7. They'd been playing in the garden, and then I heard odd noises coming from the utility room, but not a lot of chatter. I went to investigate and found them both in their wellies playing their latest 'game' on the (very tough) lino. It was, they cheerfully told me, called 'Stamp' and involved snails, wellies and the utility room floor. To this day, I've no idea how they came up with it - they aren't thugs in normal circumstances, honest! They only did it the once...

Just been out and found two snails and hordes of slugs. Took a bucket of water - alarmingly one of the snails began climbing out of the water after about 3 minutes submerged. I knocked it back in again and left it!

    I feel awful, slightly.
  • My unsociable neighbour collects them, so I oblige by adding to his collection.

Every snail I find in my yard gets a one time only, free, flying lesson.

I don't find so many these days.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

I used to drop them into the birdbath, thinking that I was providing a fast food station for the birds...until I found a cluster of them underneath the bowl, hiding! They now get the boot treatment, which I find gives immense satisfaction when I realise they've torn one of my lovely hostas to ribbons!
(I've found that petroleum jelly, smothered around the necks of the pots and garlic water sprayed on the hostas is giving good results at the moment ;) )

When I moved here last year there were seven huge hostas in the garden all of which had cobweb-like leaves. I had them taken out and my previous neighbour (who is a gardener) planted them in the front field. I hated having them looking so awful.

I've been out this morning, no 'new' snails yet. I'll go out again later in case they're late risers. :rotfl:
