I did the DofE gold decades ago. I didn't bother doing bronze or silver, just gold. I can't say I enjoyed it but it, and the ensuing Buckingham Palace garden party, has given me something to talk about at job interviews over the years.
I didn't do bronze and silver because, being one of the youngest in the year, I was under the age limit to start them when my classmates started doing them and I copped the hump and refused to do them. It worked in my favour though because it meant that I was 'fresh' to it all and achieved gold when a lot of my classmates had dropped out after just bronze.
Consquently I would have to say don't worry if your offspring doesn't fancy doing it yet.0
