Scotland's 100% renewables electricity target narrowly missed
Scotland narrowly missed a key environment target for the equivalent of 100% of electricity used in 2020 to be generated from renewable sources.Official figures show gross consumption from renewables - minus net exports - was 98.6%
Anyway on the plus side
Of the 271TWh used by Scotland, England and Wales last year
Imports accounted for just over 10%
And Scotland supplied England with 15Twh

Ahh so Scotland is 98% renewables because of England.
You should give that headline to the BBC, someone will no doubt be sacked for not coming up with that themselves. 😉
I think England is about 30% renewables, and 10% imports... think you may need to build up your generation capacity first.West central Scotland

Perhaps a more helpful answer would be, England indeed has that massive battery, it's called the EU and already there are exports to Ireland and France, so no excuse really...

As the day went on however, the export reduced then reversed, but shows the potential now that so many more interconnectors have been finished, and many more are planned in the next few years.
As for Scotland, well, they continue to put Wales and England to shame ..... gonna need some more windfarms further south me thinks.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Hopefully the emerging Tidal will help Wales.

That's quite some storage facility, the scale of which we can perhaps only dream of here in the UK. Guess the terrain here doesn't lend itself to structures of such scale and if it did then the environmental impact would likely bring it into serious question.China is often painted as the bad guy when it comes to climate change but they do now appear to have a strong focus on renewables.
State Grid of China switches on world’s largest pumped-hydro station
Located in China’s Hebei province, the 3.6GW facility consists of 12 reversible pump generating sets with a capacity of 300MW each and has a storage capacity of 6.612 billion kWh.
The State Grid Corporation of China, which is China’s largest state-owned grid operator and power utility, has commissioned, last week, the 3.6GW Fengning Pumped Storage Power Station, a pumped-storage hydroelectric power station located in Hebei province.
The construction of the $1.87 billion project, which was implemented in two 1.8GW phases, was started by engineering company China Gezhouba Group Company Limited in 2014.
