Britain hits historic clean energy milestone as zero carbon electricity outstrips fossil fuels in 2019
Same story, but a more detailed article discussing it:
Zero-carbon electricity outstrips fossil fuels in Britain across 2019In December, National Grid unveiled plans to invest almost £10bn in the UK’s gas and electricity networks over the next five years. Of this, almost £1bn has been earmarked for the transition to a net zero carbon electricity system by 2025, including investments in new equipment and technology.
A further £85m will support changes to the ways people heat their homes, switching away from gas boilers to technologies such as electric heat pumps and hydrogen boilers. National Grid estimates that more than 23 million homes will need to install new low-carbon heating solutions by 2050.Mart. Cardiff. 5.58 kWp PV systems (3.58 ESE & 2.0 WNW). Nice little story:
The Largest Passive House In North America: 154 Low-Income Housing Units (46 For Formerly Homeless)Take note, all who say don’t bother to attempt passive house standards for lower income developments. This one combines social ethics as well as the passive house higher standard of sustainability. Park Avenue Green in this development has 154 units of low-income housing (including 46 for formerly homeless people). So, for all the naysayers who claim it can’t be done low income, think again. The design integrates storm resiliency features, another plus for low income that often find the most difficult experiences during emergencies due to climate.Mart. Great news indeed. It was a good year for progress in Scotland too.
https://www.energyvoice.com/otherenergy/202451/scottish-renewable-energy-hits-record-generation-in-2019/Last year, we were able to meet the equivalent of almost 74% of our electricity demand from renewable sources, and the first quarter in 2019 shows that positive trend continues.
We are seeing the growing importance of offshore wind, with capacity and generation both continuing to rise – with further projects under construction.Scott in Fife, 2.9kwp pv SSW facing, 2.7kw Fronius inverter installed Jan 2012 - 14.3kwh Seplos Mason battery storage with Lux ac controller - Renault Zoe 40kwh, Corsa-e 50kwh, Zappi EV charger and Octopus Go0 -
And possibly 100% renewable electricity in Scotland this year ??

It's quite stark when you look at the NG eso app (for android or ios) and can see that for instance, right now Northern Scotland is 84% wind power, southern Scotland is 64% wind power, yet just over the border in North east England its 5% wind (76% nukes)West central Scotland

IMO, for as long as I've been watching these figures and their growth, every year is a good one for Scotland.
And whilst I'd like to playfully make fun of England, I have to admit that Wales has not done particularly well too, though we do seem to be aiming high and proposing lots of RE deployment.
I'm personally lucky as I live close to a large (2.3MW) on-shore WT, so got to see it up close, and hear it up close, though there is very little to hear. And there are plans to build a large solar farm nearby too, but I doubt I'll be able to see much of that.
Perhaps our positivity towards RE (well, most of us ) is based on our having been 'subjected' to the reality of WT's, PV etc and realising that they work and are not something to fear? Just a waffling Marty theory.Mart. Cardiff. 5.58 kWp PV systems (3.58 ESE & 2.0 WNW). Two A2A units for cleaner heating.

This is nonsense
Scotland is about 50% nuclear powered and the other half is a mix of hydro wind and gas. The 50% nuclear powered Scotland is also losing all that nuclear output this decade.
The article seems to try and suggest that total wind generation is equal or greater than total electricity demand from homes in Scotland ignoring the fact that homes are only about one third of electricity demand. And also ignoring the fact that Scotland nuclear output is half of Scotland's consumption and this has been true for decades.
I also love the fact that they highlight the Congo as one of the success stories of a 100% green grid....the Congo.... possibly the world's poorest country0 -

Regardless of 'strong' political will, the World is already moving towards RE and BEV's. They have both moved into positive economic territory too recently, so be it for environmental or economic reasons, they will continue to grow, and most likely accelerate. And political will is bending and will have to break eventually, so there is only one ending, and that's one that shifts away from the FF economy.
The only question here, and what Mr Carney is trying his best to advise, is whether we transition the FF company values steadily across perhaps the next 20-30yrs, or if it happens all of a sudden when we look at their values, see they are mostly due to reserves and realise the King is naked.
Just to be clear, the FF side of these companies values is going to reduce massively by 2050 whether they like it or not, it's only the time period over which the re-evalution(s) take that will differ.
It's amusing how you think you know more than everyone else because you read a few biased websites0
