  • Hi all,

Im a little concerned by some of the coments above. I have recently placed an order with Project Solar which is about to be installed next week. I got 4 quotes in all over 3 weeks. Project Solar were the 1st. They did seem to be on the high end price wise. I checked companys house on all 4 of the companys. That in itself ruled 2 of the companys straight out. I would always advise looking on that first. Looked on lots of review sites Project Solars was acttually very good. Fenland Solars revies were fair to. With the way FSA laws work though i did feel alot safer placing my order with Project Solar. Fenland Solar had a 25 year panel warranty FSA backed. Project Solars panel warranty is 99 years FSA backed. Thats the reason that sold it for me i tthink. To have the product backed by HM Treasury was a big thing for me. If anyone knows of another company out there offering more then 25 years FSA backed let me know. I have not been installed yet so if theres a better deal on the market let ne know assp.

Why would the FSA back a Solar Panel Warranty? Are we talking about the same FSA that ceased to exist in 2013? Do you mean FCA? if so why would they back a Solar Panel Warranty?

So if you think they are any good how much are you paying them and what are you getting for your money?

Did you look at the directors of Project Solar? For example, Mr Simon John Peat seems to have been involved with several other companies (many containing the word "Project") which have since dissolved:

Do you actually know which "Project Solar" your contract is with and do you have confidence they will be around in the future?
You might find that the "Project Solar" in 2020 is a completely different company than the one in 2017!

I'd always recommend using a local company with a few years of history. Then you are supporting your local economy and you can always visit them in person if you have issues in the future.

Hiya. Can I ask what the size and cost of the system is you are having installed? Also what does a 99 year FSA backed solar panel warranty actually mean?

So far on this thread we've seen some utterly disgusting quotes such as:

    £7250 for a 2.5kWp system.

3kWp installed instead of the contract/quote of 3.46kWp.

    £8,373 for 4kWp.

£9,565 or £18,340 with finance (unspecified system size, assume 4kWp).

    Thanks.

  • Sorry i ment the FCA. You see under cunsumer credit law they will underwrite the the manufactures warranty on the product. So in this case the panel 285w Evolotion has a 99 year manufactors warranty. So under consumer credit law the FCA underwrite it also. FCA are then undetwriten by HM treasury. Even if Project Solar are no longer here the Treasury will always be there. Its more about peace of mind for me long term. At the end of the day im looking at having it long term. If i finance it with a 10 year manufactury warranty then the FCA will offer me the same but for only 10 years. The way im seeing it is if a manufacturer is only giving me a 10 year warranty and then backing away from the product. How on earth am i supposed to believe in it moving forward. What seemed to concern me further was that my other quotes were saying how much better off i will be in 25 years. But the panel only has a 10 year build warranty. It will simply not last 25 yesrs in my mind. I find that just to big a risk.
  • It's a 4kw system, 14 x 285w panels. On my contract it says my system out put will be 3.7kw. This is due to a very small amount of shadding. The cost for full install is £8700. I get a 99 year manufacturing warranty on the panels aswell as the inverter. Im financing it over 10 years on a balance reducing loan. The aim for me is probably 5 years exit. So under FCA cunsumer law its peace of mind for me. I just felt that some of the other quotes were to cheap but also very high risk moving forward. Some of the reviews of some of the other companies were quite poor aswell which put me off. I am getting installed on Friday. I may get 1 more quote in that time to ease my mind. Know of any one?

You have explained the FCA side of it so how much are you paying and what do you get for your money?

  • Why would you always recomend a local company? Just because it's local dosn't mean it's good does it. I mean all companies fall under the same laws. I did see the Simon Peat past history but with the FCA laws and hies i feel i should be safe whether Project Solar are still tradding in the future. Ive have had a few quotes else where warranties only seem to 10 years. You seem to be knowledgeable, what or who would you recommend?
  • Im paying £8700 for 14 x 285 panels. I have a Voltage Optimiser. Im financing it over 10 years on a balance reducing loan so the plan is to exit that at year 5. 99 year warranty on panels and it looks like the inverter and the voltage optimiser.
