Call forwarding whilst abroad

Hi, I am away in France on Wednesday and wanted to stay connected with my friends and family.

My current PAYG sim is with The Peoples Operator which doesn't work outside the UK unless you provide 3 months bank statements and a deposit of £50, not the norm and I've not got time to sort it now and wouldn't want to pay the roaming charges anyway.

Anyway I thought about buying an international sim card or the similar but came across the Three Add on bundle trick to get data, minutes and text for 30 days in 18 different countries.

Back to my question: Can I set up call forwarding on my current sim card in my iPhone 6, remove the sim card and replace it with the Three sim card and it work fine when I go abroad or do both sim cards need to be in a mobile and switched on to work?

If both need to be in a mobile and switched on, does the one that calls are being forwarded on from need to be in the UK to avoid roaming charges?

Thanks

I like the Three £15 Add on Bundle that includes unlimited data allowance too.
Going to Hong Kong later in the year and they are included too.

The SIM for the forwarded number does not need to be in a phone.

Will your iPhone accept other network SIMs or has it been locked to the first network it was used with?

My iPhone will accept other networks as I bought it from Apple unlocked.

Ive had two different sims in since owning it. a Tesco one and my current TPO one.

Check whether People's Operator supports call diversion.
