Son's phone stolen abroad

Of course we are angry beyond words and will deal with him when he returns tomorrow. It goes without saying that he won't be on our contract again and he will have to pay it back but I came here for advice on what we could expect from EE, not parenting advice.
As it happens we are no further forward, they just say we may have to pay it all back, we may not. They are still investigating but apparently won't go to the expense of asking Spanish police to investigate the number that is being rung even though it's the same every time and runs to 28 pages.0 -

Don't be put off with those making assumptions.
It is an horrendous situation for you and one that I hope you find a solution for.
I would perhaps spread my enquiries further than here and see if EE have a forum where some advice can be sought. Even social media, twitter or Facebook might help you.
Good luck.0 -
That's a good idea - the networks often have representatives on social media who tend to be a lot more clued up than the usual CS staff and want to resolve problems so they don't get bad publicity on SM. Including on here - maybe also try the mobiles board here.theonlywayisup wrote: »Don't be put off with those making assumptions.

Ignore the lectures about responsibility etc - lots of people simply aren't aware of the consequences of a stolen contract phone - otherwise they'd all set PINs, when IME a minority do.0 -
The consequences of a lost mobile have been very well-publicised in the last year. There's been a spate of stolen phones in Barcelona, with one young man being charged £15,000 by his provider.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Son has arrived home and is devastated by the outcome of his stupidity. He insists that he did turn data roaming off (who knows?). EE say they will let us know what we owe by the 22nd, our next billing date.0

That won't do any good if someone took the SIM out and put it in another phone. Besides which the big bill is almost certainly premium rate numbers, not data charges. That's how the thieves make money.mansemum66 wrote: »Son has arrived home and is devastated by the outcome of his stupidity. He insists that he did turn data roaming off (who knows?).
