Hope you don't mind me coming in on this but it may be what I am looking for. I am going to Italy in a month's time and won't have wifi where we are staying. We have phones with Three so can use them on Feel at Home. We would like to take a laptop but can't use tethering abroad.
Have I got it right with this Mifi that I could buy it and give the 30-day notice of cancellation on the first day and it would cost me £20 for 15Gb for the month and I would have the Mifi for another time? If so the only problem I can see is whether this would work abroad or not? Any help gratefully received.0 -

EE SIM won't work abroad, unless you buy a Roaming package or replace the SIM with a 3 Data SIM and use Feel At Home or insert a local SIM from Italy.0 -
Thought that this deal would be too good to be true for me. I take it that a data SIM from 3 would allow tethering as the SIMs we have in our phones don't? I have an old smartphone (Galaxy Note) so if I did get a data SIM would I be able to use this?0

Yes, it would.
Cheaper to get a local SIM if you are heavy users.....
3 UK SIM will cost you £8 for the first GB and then a £15 top up for another 3GB or £25 for 7GB. In addition, Roaming usage may be inferior to local access.
Local 3 (it) SIM will be cheaper. They do 3GB for 5€ plus the cost of the SIM etc.SuperInternet 5 € 3 GB 1 month
or if you are really heavy Internet users(Streaming and/or downloading films and such):Promotions for Tourists in Italy (city guide included):
ALL-IN Explorer Week 20 € 10 GB 7 days
ALL-IN Explorer Month 40 € 20 GB 30 days
TIM have 2GB for 10€, 5GB for 20€ and 10GB for 30€.0 -
Weird, I posted a reply yesterday but it has disappeared. Thanks for all the info, I didn't realise that Three were in Italy. I had a look on their website and found this at http://www.tre.it/all-in-explorer/en where you get 7 days' unlimited internet for 20 euros. Certainly looks as though I should be able to get a good deal from them. The only problem is that there is very little information given and I can't see whether tethering is possible. Don't speak or read Italian either which doesn't help!0

Then read it in English; The options may only be activated by new 3 customers who purchase a prepaid data SIM card, having submitted a valid ID document. The options are only valid for traffic on the 3 network. The traffic threshold for the option ALL-IN Explorer Week is 10GB in 7 days, while that for the option ALL-IN Explorer Month is 20GB in 30 days. Both options require the activation of the Super Web New prepaid plan.
On reaching the threshold or at the end of the period, the options cannot be renewed and will be disabled automatically. Customers may continue to use the prepaid data plan underlying Super Web New, at the following costs: for Internet traffic on the national 3 network, 50.41 cents/100MB; for national Internet roaming traffic, 60.50 cents/MB. Pricing calculated on the basis of prepaid 100MB increments. The 100MB traffic cannot be used in separate sessions. Visit tre.it to see the data traffic thresholds. The SIM includes €1 of traffic to be used on a pay-as-you-go basis and for national roaming traffic. 3 reserves the right to disable the options in cases of use not conforming to the provisions of the offer conditions. Offer available until 31/12/2015. All prices include VAT.
I gave you the basics earlier.
It's a Data SIM, so modems, tethering should be the expected method of utilisation.0 -
Thanks, I hunted all over that page for any further info but missed the NOTE they hid it under. It looks a great option. I'll report back here on my experience with it.0

Of course if suitable, you can keep it going. You can downgrade the allowance if you find that you aren't using it or move up to 25GB for £30 if you need more.
In addition, you cannot go over your allowance. Unlike 3, who will charge you if you do.
This is a good unit in my experience and have been using it for the past 3 months. However I tried the "cancellation on the received day" method and 3 wanted me to send the whole unit back as I had 14 days to reject it. I managed to bluff my way out this and cancelled after 15 days keeping the unit. It cost me £20 but still worth it.0 -

Get a separate unit(MiFi). Having your Internet source tied to your phone solely could prove a nuisance.
Consider this Huawei 4G Mi-Fi On EE 4G 15GB on a 30 day contract for £20.
Gives you the freedom to swap SIMs and/or upgrade/downgrade as and when necessary.
Fantastic! just received my device and I'm getting 15Mbs download and 9Mbs upload on a remote campsite in the middle of The Lakes! I was struggling with 0.25Mbs on three and o2 doesn't work at all. Works much better than the tethering too with other advantages, nice MiFi, highly recommended! Thanks again0
