Urgent Help!!!!

Options
I'm moving from my rented flat tomorrow, and giving it a thorough clean today.

I've found a patch of melted leg wax on the laminate floor behind the bin and can't get it up despite scrubbing and scrubbing - please can anyone suggest a way of getting it off before i have to pay for a new floor to be laid out of my damage deposit? I'm desperate

Thanks in advance

All I can think off is to cover it with either a brown paper bag or greaseproof paper and rub your iron ( med heat ) over it, it works with candle wax so it might help. If not I'm sure someone else will think of something brilliant.
    Good luck

Sorry to hear that, Tondella. Is it a patch of raised wax (that you can scrape up carefully with the edge of a blunt knife) or an oily stain that's soaked into the laminate (no idea what to do there)?

Best of luck with the move, Penny. x

  • I know its leg wax, but the way to remove candle wax is to put some brown paper on top of it and iron over it (using an iron obviously); don't have the heat too high. As I said, I know its leg wax but if you heat it up you should be able to get it off.

It's essentially a sugary glue - It's sat on top of the laminate, but there isn't enough to be able to scrape it off (especially not without damaging the laminate) the iron thing might be worth a go ... or else i thought maybe nail polish remover - that's what people recommend for chewing gum isn't it?

Nail varnish remover might remove the top layer of coating off the laminate, I wouldn't try it without checking on an unseen area first.
One day I might be more organised...........

Seriously try baby wipes or baby oil - small bits first!
Or maybe one of the halogen hob scrapers? Carefully obviously so you don't damage the floor underneath.
I would tend to opt for a careful application of a hot iron too with something to absorb the melted wax...
Or maybe the other extreem... try icecubes to freeze it and make it easier to scrape?

I work in a beauty salon and we have this problem all the time so we use white spirit and that seems to do the job
