Pretty much depends on the current account. My HBOS current account pays 6.7% on balances up to £2500. Much better than any savings account anyway.0

Whenever I have excess money in the current account, I move the money (on the internet) to the savings account and then move it back when needed. Admittedly both current and savings account are with the same organisation so is easy to set up. And as I said, I do the transfers on the internet.
I take it one stage further. As my wife is a non-taxpayer I move money from my Nationwide Flexaccount to her e-savings account (instant transfer on-line) rather than my own e-savings. Then, when a direct debit is due I move the appropriate amount back to my Flexaccount the day before. Only worthwhile if you're online every day, which I am. The relevant rates are 4.25% taxed for my Flexaccount and 5.8% not taxed for my wife's e-savings.0 -
