Anyway of viewing local driving instructors pass rates so I can compare?

I'm about to take driving lessons and was wondering is there any way to view local driving instructors/schools statistics/pass rates? Possibly a database somewhere as I'd like to make sure if I'm paying a lot of money then I've got a good instructor.

Thanks :)

No. And even if there was, it wouldn't tell you much. How many hours more hours than average does it take to get that high pass rate?

    Best guide is recommendations.

And dont be surprised if the best ones 'screen you' -

'Uuh ... I uh, wanted to , like book some lessons... I see you have a flawless pass rate... uh, please?'

'Nah, you look !!!!!!, ill lose my 100% pass first time score. GTFO.'

In an ideal world there would be. However the driving instructors through their various associations and trade bodies continually lobby the government depts. to prevent it happening.

The system works well in other countries no reason why we shouldn't have it despite what driving instructors think.

Can find ones in your area with reviews. That's how I found mine.

It's much more to do with your confidence than the instuctor.

Really you want a suitable vehicle, which you are happy with, and an instructor who's clear and someone you can speak to.

The rest is really down to you and how quickly you pick things up.

Very difficult to implement in practice though - you might have one instructor that will suggest you are ready for a test after the bare minimum number of lessons on the basis that its worth a go and might save you some money on lessons. Compared to another who drags it out and gets another 4 or 5 lessons worth of cash out of you whilst sucking his teeth and saying that you aren't ready yet. You'd need to have some system for adjusting the pass rate for the number of hours lessons per candidate.

Do some digging and see if you can find how long the instructors have been operating for. Driving instructors that aren't very good don't last very long.

i dont know id thats true danny-i started lessons with a woman contracted to a frim who had been teaching for 25 years-she wasnt attentive couldnt be bothered half the time and cancelled alot- i quickly changed instructors informing them i wouldnt recommend my previous instructor to anyone

i also feel you need to decide when to do the test maybe set yourself 25 lessons or whatever you feel comfortable with and tell your instructor what you wish to do

sorry I meant self employed instructors. There have been plenty start out and fail here. The good ones are still in business.
