    You'll need your P60's at least, have you got them? You'll need them from the 2012/13 tax year onwards.

    BTW as you pay higher rate tax you also need to declare any savings interest (except ISAs), and you can claim relief on gift aid and personal pension contributions.

    I'm sorry, but I do not feel any empathy with someone earning £50,000 pa who is dependent upon child benefit.

    I suggest that you go over to the debt-free forum and ask for advise on budgeting.

    Yes you will have to lay it back, all of it if you are not eligible for it.

    Normally they will accept it over a set period if you can show you cannot afford to pay it back in a lump sum, but they will want to know your outgoings so they can decide.

    It really depends on where you live - £50k per year with a non-working partner and two kids can be tough in some London and home county areas.

    And it must be very galling to reflect that a couple could have an income of £49,999 each and the household would qualify for CB.....
