JSA new claim - is signing up to Universal Jobmatch compulsory?

Thanks - will pass it on and leave him to it.0

No problem. There's a lot to read on that link, but the basics of it are that it's personal information and you have a right to refuse them access to it. By forcing you they are acting illegally.
If you give access and later change your mind you also have the right to remove access and they can not force you to give them access again.0 -
Thanks, told him that and he can do whatever he wants now.
Frankly feel sorry for anyone who has to sign on after being at work for 20 years to be honest.
The reason I said UJB won't have any jobs is that the person was working for over 20 yeas at senior manager/assistant director level as is completely at loss now. Having a quick look at jobs on UJB together yesterday - we did not see how anything suitable could ever be found there as most are NMW jobs, manual jobs or they do not even state salary at all.
I think it should be compulsory to list a salary with every job advert0 -

Ah. I have seen jobs at various levels, but it just depends exactly what they're looking for and in what area. Might just be that there are not that many jobs available for what they're hoping to get.
To start with they should allow them to just try and find suitable jobs at that level. However, if they don't find anything they will expect them to start searching for other jobs, even if they are NWM.
I hope they find something
I agree. It's really annoying when they don't list a salary.0 -
I've recently signed on, whilst signing up to UJM is mandated on your agreement, you don't have to give them access to it...
However my job center seems to hate UJM and prefer me to write my job search down. She did tell me to login every now and then even if I don't use it because they have been known to check and if you're not using it, will give them an excuse... I did wonder how they would check if I was using it without access... but nevermind lol
I have been signing on for five weeks (absolutely hate it, but needs must:(), and they look at my entries on UJM every time.
You say that you do not have to give them access to it, but how would you stop them? The whole idea of UJM is that they can check to see what efforts you are making to find work.0 -

You couldn't stop them but if you don't give permission and you found out they were accessing it you can take legal action.
The idea of UJM is that it's a site to search for jobs. For many years they've had a job site. It's just now it has a feature for showing what jobs you are applying for both on their site and others and that, with permission, they can check. It also allows for them to send you job listings to apply for.0 -

You have to make entries in a tab marked "applications", showing which jobs you have applied for, but even the Jokecentre staff acknowledge that it doesn't work:rotfl:, so you have to make the entries in another section for "activity".
I applied for about a dozen jobs the first couple of days, and none of them showed up in the "applications" tab.
I wonder how much they spent on their IT system.;)0 -

Yeah, that sounds about right lol.
I was just going to say millions of pounds, but figured I'd look it up.
"The site was developed by Monster, at a cost of over £17 million and annual running charges of £6Million"

That's a lot of money for a site that doesn't work right, has a terrible layout/design and a number of dodgy and fake jobs listed.0 -

The job centre has always been poor for assisting people that have worked higher up the emplyment ladder. However many (typically mortgage protection) insurance policies only pay out on evidence of claiming JSA. Indeed if you don't go through the process then it may be impossible to access other benefits e.g. council tax benefit.0
