Purchased £150 TV from Currys 17/04/2014
Has been in our bedroom, had about 30 hours use, if that.
Plugged it in and switched it on last week and it won't power up.
I emailed Currys who said there is nothing they can do as it is out of guarantee.
I replied saying SOGA applies still
They have now offered me an £88 voucher. (taking into account "it's usage")

I don't really want to accept this, would I be daft not to? I don't mind paying for a report (how much would that be likely to cost... and who do I contact?)

The cheapest TV on their website is £99 and that is a lot worse than the one we had. If we had a lot of use out of it it wouldn't bother me so much but we have barely used it at all.

After six weeks and it is "out of guarantee"?

    Amazing!

    Take their offer

Really? I paid in cash, why should I be refunded in Curry's vouchers?
Can a report not show how much usage it has had?

The amount of use it has had is not important. The set has been available for over a year when you could've used it 24 hours a day if you wanted.

I would be going back to them and suggesting that £120 may be a more appropriate sum. With any luck they may up their offer to around £100.

Yes you are entitled to receive the refund in cash, but often you may get more if you are prepared to accept store vouchers.

Also remember that after six months from purchase they can insist that you prove that the goods are inherently faulty. They appear not to be doing that at the moment, but if you push too hard there is the possibility that they may withdraw their offer and insist on that proof.

Thankyou for that. I don't mind proving that it is was inherently faulty (assuming that that is just an engineers report or is there more to it than that?) as I'm almost certain it was. Thanks again

Yes, but that won't necessarily get you any more money.

At the moment they appear to have accepted that the goods are inherently faulty. If they didn't think that the set was inherently faulty, they would be offering you nothing.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I just rang them up and agreed on £101 bacs payment.
