Really was amazed about how much people lie and cheat and try to weasel their way out of their obligations - obviously made coming to this site a lot less of a shock..
Well that made me :rotfl:
My first job was as a fork lift driver which is your average career for an 18 year old girl. The downsides were getting wet and cold in winter, but overall it was fun, got to meet all sorts, definitely a university of life moment. Did it for a couple of companies for about 5 years before van driving beckoned.0 -
I worked in a grrengrocers and florist, worked 8.30am - 6pm half day Thusday and all sunday off. This was 1962 and I was 15. I got the princely sum of £2.50p a week for that.0

My first job was working on a farm during the 1975 school holidays when I was 13; pay was 34.5p/Hr. Long hours, but no health and safety to worry about in those days!
First fulltime proper job was at 18, working as a trainee accountant on £1,800 per year (about 92p/Hr); and I still had to pay income tax on that!0 -

I know you aren't supposed to say it, but those were the days - I never had a forklift license till the late 90s and I started work in '82.:o
I was paid roughly the same, £35.00 per week and my mum took £30.00 off me for housekeeping.0 -
My grandkids still can't believe I started work for £1.25 (£1. 5shillings) A WEEK! as a counter clerk in a Travel Agency, Out of which I gave Mum 10/- (50p) Weekly bus fare 10/- (50p) and, if I had any sweet coupons, had enough left to take my girlfriend to the pictures AND buy a box of Quality Street.
But that was a long time ago!0 -
My first full-time job was as a junior shorthand/typist in a Solicitors' office. It was 1958 and I had just left school aged 15. My weekly wage was ten shillings a week (about 50p in 'New' money!) Out of that, I had to pay my mum board, my own bus fares and pay for my weekly entry fee to the Victor' Sylvester Dance Studio above the Gaumont Cinema! Every now and again, I managed to save enough to buy a five bob top from my local 'Blouse Box'! :rotfl:

From 1967 to 1969 during my GCE years, I did a paper round for 14/- (70p) a week, It was 6 days a week and during the second year a newsagent closed and their rounds were added to our rounds and I had extra houses and earned 21/- (£1.10) a week. I then started work full time for £6 a week. It went up by £3 a week once a year which meant after 10 years I was earning £36 a week.0

My first job was working in a greengrocers on a Saturday when I was 15. I only lasted 4 weeks because I spotted a huge spider on my last day.
I don't know if it was a common spider or whether it came out of the Bananas but I never went back.
Spiders terrify me!Everyone you meet may be fighting a battle you know nothing about.
Be kind!
