We have a Halifax credit card that we only use for foreign spending, but I don't think it's a clarity card.
Would there be any point asking Halifax to change it to a clarity card instead?
Their website isn't very clear as to what difference there are between our 'black' card the blue Clarity card (apart from colour!)

Yes, assuming that "feel free" = "fee-free".

From the day when you make a withdrawal. It's fee-free, not interest-free.

Thanks, yes I did mean fee free. Damn iPad autocorrect :o

I've actually just found a better use for it! I have two other credit cards I use for monthly spending which get paid off in full. Due to some recent extra spending, my payments in July would have left me a little short. But I've just BT them both (fee free) to the Clarity card which means, thanks to the way statement dates have worked out, I won't now have to clear the balance until late August, so win, win :T

Oh, and I seem to have retained the 12.9% APR interest rate that I was offered when I originally opened the card, which is good to know!

I've applied for this card a couple of times and been rejected each time, last being December of last year. Bit annoying as I don't understand why, I have a good credit history (no late/missed payments, car finance, Natwest credit card, phone contract, etc.). Oh well. Maybe another day...

Do you have any bank accounts with Halifax?

I think they straight decline anyone who holds a basic bank account with them, could it be something like that preventing your application?

Yes, ask Halifax to replace your card with a Clarity, they probably will.

They don't allow this - I tried and they told me I would have to close down my current card and apply for a Clarity card as a new applicant...

Do you have a current account with Halifax? If so, a Halifax Reward current account into which you pay at least £1K a month, could gain you £5 a month for the current account use and £5 any month that you spend at least £300 with the Clarity card. £5 for a £300 spend equates to 1.6667% cash back. Any spend above £300 could be put through the other (Barclaycard?) account.

No. Haven't a Halifax account as yet but have other high interest accounts so will consider it going forward when I have some free time. Have just stopped using the luma card for food and fuel, but have a 123 card for fuel and potentially shopping purchases, so might not necessarily put £300 through clarity every month, particularly as spending money to get a low percentage of cashback isn't totally mse.
  • So does anyone know the difference between a normal (black) Halifax card and a Clarity (Blue) one?
The black card we have was recommended on here a couple of years ago for foreign use, that's why we went for it.

    Recommended by whom?
Did it meet your expectations over years in terms of foreign use?
Are you sure that the statements don't say 'Clarity'?
You'll find both in the table.
