I have also been looking at the Eve mattress along with some other latex mattress options and have uncovered quite a deceitful anomaly in the way they present (or rather hide) their customer reviews.

If you look at the customer reviews on the Eve mattress website they show "5 Stars" out of 5 stars for all 268 reviews they have published on their own site - pretty impressive huh? Out of nearly 300 customers so far, they have an aggregate 5 star rating across every review - which is outstanding - absolutely nobody dislikes the mattress in any way??

However, and this is where things get very murky. If you search for "mattress" or similar on Google you will see that Eve have an advert promoting their website with some gold stars next to it, but the rating on the Google advert says "4.5 stars" out of 5, not 5 stars out of 5 as it shows on the Eve mattress website.

Rather intrigued as to how this was the case (surely someone out there didn't like something about the Eve mattress was my thinking) I looked into this in more detail and have uncovered the highly deceitful way in which Eve mattress hide / don't publish their negative reviews (of which it transpires there are many, just damn near impossible to find unless you do some serious digging)

So, they have 268 "5 star" out of 5 star reviews displayed prominently on their own website. If however you search for "mattress" see their advert on Google with the gold stars saying "4.5 stars", try clicking on the words "advertiser rating" next to the gold stars.

This takes you to a page saying "over 300 reviews on Yotpo" with a few sample reviews listed underneath (I've looked into Yotpo, this seems to be a free tool for web companies to collect customer reviews)

    If you then click on the word "Yotpo" in blue on the top right hand side of the page, you then arrive at ALL the Eve mattress reviews that customers have actually left - 385 in total - see the page in question at link below;

    http://reviews.me/furniture/www-evemattress-co-uk/http-staging-evemattress-co-uk

Again, on the face of it, these all seem to be 5 star reviews (it displays 5 of what appear to be the latest reviews and then you have to keep clicking "load more" at the bottom of the page which in turn displays another 5 reviews, and so on.)

At the top of this page containing all 385 reviews you will see again the gold stars which, this time, show they have a rating of "4 stars" out of 5, not the "5 stars" out of 5 shown on their own website. And whilst this page contains 385 reviews, Eve mattress only display 268 of these on their own website... Strange?

Actually, it's not strange once you look at it in detail, it is intentionally deceptive and manipulative for the following reasons:

    {Content removed by MSE Investigations}

If you look at the page on the link above that shows EVERY Eve mattress review, and keep clicking the "load more" button at the bottom of the page, you will discover another very manipulative strategy on how they are, once again hiding their bad reviews.

Basically, if you leave a bad review for Eve mattress today, and its less than 4 stars out of 5, it will not be published on their own website as we've already discovered. It will however be published on the page I've linked to above, but it will be buried to the very bottom of this page (even though it's actually the most recent review posted) so for anyone to see these poor reviews you have to keep clicking the "load more" button at the bottom of this page hundreds of times til you arrive at what are some scathing reviews, many of which have been left very recently...

So there we have it. On their own website they only publish the good reviews. On the link above however, they have to publish every review, whether good or bad, but if it is a negative review, it will be filtered to the very bottom of this page making it near impossible for anyone to find - even if you are in fact the latest reviewer...

Personally, I have no idea how they get away with this. Or why exactly this Yotpo review company let them do this - Like everyone else, I expect reviews to be independent, honest and show "warts and all" feedback as it is unrealistic for any product to be loved 100% of the time by 100% of the people. Not the case with Eve mattress reviews however - this is a carefully executed strategy where they hide/don't publish (nearly a third of the total reviews they have received) on their own website, and bury the bad ones ensuring no-one will see them on this other page - which incidentally looks to be the legitimate all-encompassing page of all Eve Mattress reviews ever left.

In my opinion, if this is the sneaky way in which they do business you really have to question other elements of what they do, as this review strategy is clearly not an accident.

I feel sorry for those customers that have read these reviews for Eve mattress and taken them at face value and purchased as a result - as this is very much "The Emperors New Clothes" of mattress companies if I've ever seen it.

Interestingly, the page I linked to above with all the Eve mattress reviews on it, that you get from clicking on "advertiser rating" next to the stars on their Google advert, has been mysteriously removed this morning... Looks like the owners of Eve mattress are suddenly aware of this thread and have removed it. Once again very sneaky... or of course an incredible coincidence??
  • I saw the Yotpo reviews this evening, though I didn't scroll through them. There are also a couple of other sites with not so many reviews, but they do show some diversity in that Eve is breaking into the States.

The two 3 star reviews I saw did not mention anything about receiving their money back and did not comment again when someone else posed the question.

Thefebruaryfox looks to be impartial as she does not review products per se. Swoonworthy does review products that he receives for free. They both show the product to be real.

The Telegraph business section published an article on the founders and mentions a number of backers, and I don't see any alarm bells there.

And topcashback is showing a 10% cashback through their site. I have never had a cash back tracker fail here in over 4 years.

I think I'm going to take a punt!

I've got no concerns that the mattress won't be delivered to you if you purchase from Eve mattress, or that topcashback will not do what they advertise.

My concerns are simple - if you leave them a bad review and it's less than 4 stars out of 5 - they simply won't publish it on their own website, they delete them instead.

It looks like they do have to publish the negative reviews on the Yotpo page that is linked in the post above, (which is probably why there is such a big disparity between the number of reviews on Eve's own website and the Yotpo reviews page - 322 on the Eve website v 489 reviews on the Yotpo reviews page) but as opposed to them being displayed as "newest review at the top of the page" as you'd expect, this only happens if the review happens to be 5 stars... if it's less than 5 stars then they bury it at the bottom of the countless pages of other reviews making them near impossible to find.

So, to be clear, my concern with Eve mattress is the very deceptive and manipulative way in which they present or rather "manage" their customer reviews.

Why don't they publish reviews rating the Eve mattress less than 4 stars out of 5 on their own website as opposed to deleting them? And why do they filter the reviews on the Yotpo page by star rating as well as date the review has been left?

If 2 customers left them a good and bad review today, I think it's reasonable to expect that both reviews would appear on their website, not just the positive review. Equally, in the same scenario, why would only the positive review appear on the Yotpo page at the very top whereas the negative review would be buried under hundreds of more favourable historic reviews.

For me, this shows they are happy to intentionally deceive prospective customers and are keen to paint a false picture of themselves and products to appear better than they really are... and I'd imagine people looking to buy a mattress right now have no idea this is the case.

If the company and products were really that good, why manipulate the way they are displayed? Why not just show the good with the bad as opposed to hiding the bad and pretending 100% of the customers are happy with everything?

If these reviews were on an independent site such as Trustpilot they would have to publish both good and bad reviews and these would be left in date order.
  • I've been looking at the Eve mattress for a while, but I've just seen they've totally redesigned the internal construction. The original construction was 4cm latex foam on 4cm memory foam, and now they are using 4cm memory foam on a 3cm foam they are calling a comfort layer (without really explaining what it is).

The latex foam was breathable and on top, but now the comfort layer (which they say is breathable) is under the memory foam.

So they claimed to have loads of experience which helped them make the worlds most comfortable mattress...

... and now after about a year they've totally redesigned it.

So if this new design (I presume) is better, I guess the original Eve is now the world's second most comfortable mattress.

Why spend all this money on an unknown brand with all the doubts associated with it. If you are committed to memory foam buy from somewhere like John Lewis - at least you will have little to be concerned about if deaing with such a company.

JL plus credit card = virtually certain that if anything goes wrong it will be sorted.

Just realised the date of the original post. Why come on here 6 months ago, ask for advice and then disappear, especially after the trouble taken and research done by forum members to answer the OP's question.

Anyway, looks like a US company so probably not so much protection if anything goes wrong. For this sort of money I'd want to shop on my doorstep!

Wow, those guys at Eve mattress are definitely having a clear out for the New Year!

Although when I say 'clear out' I specifically mean they are deleting the bad reviews en mass from the Yotpo reviews page linked above in this thread - the had 580 odd reviews only yesterday morning on this page and now they only have 371...

Interestingly, now that they have deleted nearly a third of the total reviews they have ever received, their aggregate satisfaction rating has gone up to 4.5 out of 5 stars from less than 4 out of 5 only yesterday morning!

So, just to make things absolutely clear - Eve mattress have yesterday deleted over 200 negative reviews from their main Yotpo review page.

Negative reviews were never published on the main Eve website anyway - these have always been deleted from the start. But now the Yotpo review page has been, ahem, *tidied* up as well to ensure that any negative review rating the Eve mattress gets less than 4 stars out of 5 (approx one third of the total reviews this bed has ever received) will never be seen! Genius!

I can't quite believe exactly how deceitful and manipulative this company are - it is incredible!

I wonder how many people look at these reviews for Eve mattress thinking they have 'great feedback' yet are completely unaware of the manipulation and deletion of negative reviews - or that one third of the reviews they have ever received have been negative? It's a staggering practice really.

I do wonder to myself if Eve mattress are aware that they have been 'outed' for this shady practice of only publishing 4 and 5 star reviews in this very thread and have frantically *tidied* up the Yotpo page to remove the evidence...?

I got one of these mattresses a few months ago. I didn't like it, really not as comfortable as I'd thought and it smelled really chemical like which put me off. I asked for a refund and after trying a little bit to get me to stick with it they issued a refund. So from that point of view they were fine. But comfort wise not convinced. However I don't think memory foam style mattresses are for me and I prefer more traditional mattresses.

No mention of what grade the memory foam is, nor how much memory foam it has either.

A decent memory foam mattress is at least V60 or V85 and around 2.5 inches.

Eve is just another gimmicky product with very good marketing. If it was any good it'll be in all the shops.

Stick it either Tempur or Healthbeds for a decent all foam mattress. If you want springs and foam then Kaymed are fantastic.
Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz

It would seem that the worlds second most comfortable mattress (latex) is available to the German market. Maybe the UK market is no longer worthy of this luxury product, thus why Eve have placed it with memory foam, which tends to sleep hot?! Obviously this new version is no longer comparable with the Tempur mattress, as originally marketed to be.
