Buy the carpet from them (if you have to) but get the underlay, bars, tape etc online and then get your own local fitter. It's much cheaper- even if you're buying top of the range underlay.

a "couple", as in .... four.

Not a lot of wiggle when you take all room dimensions into account.

Thanks for the help in conversion though, as an engineer I wouldn't have a clue. Guess I'm more used to dealing in thousands of litres than mm.

We recently changed carpets in our place.
Carpetright are rip off. Way too expensive.

Find a local independent carpet dealer they will give you good price including discount, underlay and installation as well.

If leave it until we have keys then this causes so many issues for us in terms of timing for moving and such.
You shouldn't need to wait until you have the keys - we arranged with the sales office for a couple of independent fitters to visit our house to measure up a couple of weeks before completion.

Agreed, most sold carpets are now in the £8-£12 range.

I went looking the other day at carpets... saw one I really liked but no price list. So took a brochure for the brand and googled them... £125 psm!

i had the opposite experience to most. i used an independent store and yeah, i got a decent deal, but the fit (by an employee, not outsourced) was absolutely shocking and had to be ripped up and i was refunded the cash. i then went to carpetright and had a much better experience - paid maybe £20 more, but they came and fitted when i wanted them to, and were much quicker, neater and politer than the independent one.

Thanks for all the info! Much appreciated.

I have no issue walking away if the price isn't right, and all your tips have greatly helped.

Just as a ballpark, if possible, how much do you think we should aim to pay to carpet the whole house which is around 70 square metres (after removing rooms which are tiled).

    Thanks!

Don't forget that when a carpet is fitted it's stretched into place. Depending on the room size you'd gain a few more inches there.

Ah, you'd definitely have the better of me there - I'm still a pints/quarts/gallons man. Never been able to get the hang of litres for fuel, so I just fill the car up :rotfl:

I work for an American company so I have to use USgpm, L/min, PSI, bar etc. My mind can be a bit frazzled sometimes :D I've put some interesting things in reports before mixing and matching when I've slacked off a bit :D

I'm the same with fuel. Light on dashboard = fill of tank.
