I used to wear scruffier shoes when driving and put my posh, nice looking heels on in the car park at the office...maybe this lady had a similar routine.

I learnt the hard way after ruining a lovely pair of heels driving the car....they became the driving shoes after that.

I tend to notice badly fitting shoes more than anything, especially on children rather than the shoes themselves, unless they are amazingly bad.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I don't think i've ever noticed someone's shoes let alone judged someone on them....

I now dread to think what people think of me....i pretty much live in my converse, even with dresses. Though if i was going out id wear black flat ballet pumps. I never wear heels. I can;t walk in them :o

I didn't think I was being that judgemental but can see that's how it might come across.

What I meant was that if someone looks smart but has really badly looked after shoes on, then yes, I might wonder about the care they take with other clothes.

I often wear old track pants when popping out for petrol or the papers & will put on old trainers, maybe people judge me on that. I do see people walking to work in suits with trainers on, I can work out why they are wearing the trainers and yes, I get your point about shabby shoes but equally, just because a persons opinion differed from mine, I wouldn't think they are being judgemental.

I was hauled over the coals by one boss for being seen walking in the door wearing a decent pair of trainers with my suit. Apparently in a decrepit hospital wing with uneven flooring was not a suitable environment to be seen wearing flat and supportive footwear for three minutes before going into my office, away from everybody, and changing into work shoes. So I had to stand at the entrance and take them off, change shoes (taking socks off at the same time) and then walk in, carrying said trainers in my hand. I'm sure that looked far more professional. But then again, she did wear £650 shoes herself.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I like to wear nice clothes and generally look quite put together when I'm out but I usually just go for some old comfy shoes that probably look a mess. I just want to be comfy though, even though I do own a lot of shoes which never get worn.

I always match shoes to what I'm wearing.

    I don't get dresses/skirts & short boots
    Trainers & smart clothes
    Socks & sandals
    & so on
    Those combos are just weird.

It seems I'm even more of a hippy than I thought. Some of my shoes are god-awful, and I'd still wear them into town if they're comfy and practical. I have a pair of green croc-type shoes that look quite ridiculous and are worn to the point where they're probably only fit for the garden :o but I wear them in public quite a lot.

My children's shoes get cleaned if they're mucky, but I don't think I've ever polished them. Their school shoes are looking a bit worn out now but there's only 4 weeks of school to go and I'm not buying more when they still fit.

OH gets his boots provided by his work, black DMs, so I clean them when necessary too, and have waxed them on occasion so that they stay in good nick.

People might think I'm a terrible person for the state of my shoes sometimes but I don't mind anyone else's. Of course I'd wear good shoes to an event or interview. This thread has however inspired me to get some shoe polish at least for the children's shoes.

Today I'm wearing battered doc martens caked in mud. I find it hard to get shoes that don't give me blisters so when I do find something comfortable I wear them until they start falling apart. I really should do something about the mud though but I'm lazy :o
I'm not generally dirty, I always wear clean clothes and shower everyday but there just aren't enough hours of the day for every aspect of my life to be in order, and I suppose cleaning or polishing my shoes is one little thing that has to give.
I do chuck smelly trainers in the washing machine though, scruffy shoes are one thing but smelly shoes are something else!

I don't concern myself with what other people wear. Each to their own. I'd rather "judge" people on how they treat me than what they wear (clothes/shoes/make-up) or how much money the have/don't have.

People use clothes - and shoes - to send out a message about themselves. Which is why coppers wear uniforms and beggars don't.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
