There will be a shed load of Windows 7 updates to install though, especially if your installation disk is pre SP1.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. So your problem is a very tired and clunky OS, a messy registry, and im near as certain that malware will be involved (although you say you have run malwarebytes) ..
If it were me, I would ..
1. back up my files
2. Boot from the windows 7 disk and do a clean install
3. restore my files from external media
4. enjoy a happy (vista free) life

It could just be the amount of items that are running at startup.
As you've already got Ccleaner, run that and find the option down the left-hand side to check what is running at startup.
You should be able to export that as a text file and post on here.
My guess would be (as has already been mentioned) a build-up of dust/fluff causing excess heat and/or too many programs trying to run at the same time getting in each others way.
What AV do you have installed?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
Try your Window's defragmenting software first before using any other software. You're supposed to use it every 2-3 months to re-group your files otherwise your system will grind to a halt. It may take at least 1-2 hours & you mustn't use other software whilst it's running so you may want to use it overnight.
I don't know where it is so someone will have to tell everyone.0 -

Was it easy to swap over from the standard hard drive to the SSD, also did you leave the old hard drive in, and how did you swap over the data ? I back up with Acronis, but have never had to use it, so really don't know how easy it would be, also worried about all the rubbish built up from the old hard drive copying over, or is that not how it works ?
You don't need to swap data. Your current drive is the primary. Remove it, and install an SSD in its place. Install an operating system. With this working OK, reinstall your old drive as a secondary. Access your data where it is, or re-arrange the folders however you want them.0 -

Hi, I use Avast which seems pretty good and has stopped a fair few attachments on emails. I am careful as to the start up, I regular check the start up programs by checking MSConfig and uncheck ing just about everything other than Microsoft and Google any programs to check they are vital.
My only real concern as to the culprit for slowing everything is Acronis Ture Image ? This is constantly running as a real time back up, and the light on the second hard drive which it backs up too, is often flashing or dimming, so I wonder if this can have anything to do with the speed, but I am currently running check disk as I must admit I haven't ran this for some time, thanks.
I am thinking the SSD drive might be the way to go if it isn't too difficult, I do know my way round a computer (a bit) I have added memory, changed graphics cards etc.my current internal hard drive is 500gb, which is around 70% full mainly with photos and music.
I do have quite a few programs which I have loaded over the years, I'm not sure I will have all the original discs or downloads, such as the Acronis I downloaded some years ago from their site, also an expensive language program Roseta stone downloaded directly, so I am worried about losing these, however if I can set up the new SSD as a primary and then access or copy these over from my internal to one of my external hard drives, that would be good.0
