Small ads locally where you can ask for cash on collection?

Also most supermarkets have for sale boards where you can advertise. (I know sainsburys and morrisons do for sure)

Try using ebid and only taking nonreversable payment such as cheques and postal orders.

Why does everyone think they are going to get ripped off on ebay? It is the biggest money making machine this century and if you stick to the rules you will NOT get ripped off. I have over 1600 successful sales via ebay and have never been ripped off. Send everything by trackable means, give honest descriptions and personal collections by cash only. If you just follow these simple rules you will be OK. There are ebay millionaires out there for gods sake, they don't worry about scammers.
  • Because forums give a distorted picture of reality, people go to forums usually because they have a problem.

The other issue is that EBAY/PAYPAL appear greedy, fees go up, service goes down

The reason i think i will be ripped off is because i have been more than once ended up out off pocket and no item As i was out the country as my job takes me away for 2 month at a time no email access was unable to didpute the dispute and as they had paid via credit card they got all the money back i was charged fee's have no item . like i say not just once.

    Thanks for the replies

  • its not really ebay/paypal's fault that YOU could not respond to a dispute.

ebay is safe if guidelines are followed, if you accept paypal make sure all valuable items are sent via trackable means, special delivery is best for items you have mentioned and never post to unconfirmed addresses

Sorry but you shouldn't be selling on ebay or ebid for that matter if you don't have daily net access. What country were you in, Iraq? Every country I have visited recently has had internet cafes or hotels with internet. If you sell on ebay you must have commitment.

I'm reliably informed that Iraqi's do have Internet access, despite the best attempts of Bush and co at annihilating every bit of infrastructure the poor chaps had.

Dave forgot to mention that cheques can bounce, or be recalled, so I thought I'd help out by pointing it out.
