I had my meters fitted July 15th, Gateway delivered on 18th, plugged it in, all working and linked within 40 mins.

    Well done OVO.

Well done kgw and well done Ovo!

Mine has taken weeks. But I am still pleased with the results.

I have suffered a data outage for nearly three days leaving a hole in my data. All appeared to be working correctly at this end so presumably it amounts to an Ovo server outage. Perhaps, it is early days for Smart Gateway.

The Ovo Smart Gateway service feels experimental.

    The service runs very slowly.

For much of the time it fails to display the live data and/or the historic data.

Presumably, someone reboots at Ovo the server every couple of days.

With added failure to collect data there are large gaps presented in the historic data.

All in all, wonderful when it works but cannot presently be viewed as anything more than experimental.

This concerns Ovo's Smart Gateway (or better named very Unsmart Gateway).

I have emailed Ovo again today. The Ovo server has been down all day. This appears to be an experimental service and not something that the Ovo customer can rely upon.

Service is very patchy. I'm not even sure that Ovo knows that the service is a failure.

  • I am very careful with key word selection in these postings so that they get a good Google hit. Ovo may eventually understand that something is wrong with their service. [Smart Meter, Smart Gateway, Ovo Energy, broken, not working, failed]

Thanks for your informative posts on Ovo's Smart Gateway.

We had Ovo smart meters and an IHD fitted over a year ago and it took four months before they were working properly. For the last eight months almost everything has worked well and I am pleased we changed over. The small problem I still have is projected usage figures but this will sort itself out in a couple of months.

Someone in the family has been offered Ovo's Smart Gateway and are having the new meters fitted in the next couple of weeks. Should they ask to change to IHD or do you think they will resolve the SG's problems the same way as they did with our IHD?

Out-of-interest, when, theoretically, there is only months to go to the start of the full roll-out of SMETS2 compliant smart meters why would anyone accept a smart meter now? Unless, of course, Ovo believes that the present generation of meters can be made compliant.

I hope that Ovo gets this sorted. Ovo's front end customer service is good, but there appears to be an inability in the back office to make things happen. The Smart Gateway is superb when it works. The problem is that for much of the time it is clearly broken. Ovo need to hold its subcontractors to task and make things happen.

Could you explain how you access the live data when the SG is working properly?

Do you just sign into your account online?

You access your My Ovo account and the following screen is displayed.

On this same screen (when it works), you see your live usage instead of "Sorry something went wrong".

You click on the Check my usage and you can access all sort of useful graphs and data. All excellent when it works.

Presumably, a technician sits in the Ovo server office and re-boots every time it fails (almost every day). The technician probably doesn't work weekends which it is presently broken.
