A home is to live in but buying in a good location makes the risk of a loss if you need to sell less, it also increases profit margins and the ability to upsize if you move area later on.
9yrs ago I and other family members were each starting on the property ladder. We all bought remarkably similar 2bed terraces in very different areas at very different prices. The pathway of those houses & subsequent valuations is telling.
1.) Rotherham - bought at £60000, now worth circa 55-65000. Still lived in by purchaser
2.) Rugby - bought at £120000, sold 2008 £140000, now worth about £160000
3.) St Albans - bought at £240000, sold 2011 £330000, now worth circa £420000
I'd buy what I needed in the best most established area I could afford rather than going bigger for the sake of it elsewhere.
And yes IMO lots of Rotherham is that bad.0 -
If all I needed to work was an internet connection, I'd be living near a beach in a hot country.....or maybe Rotherham0
