Santander Debenhams Re-opened

Hi all, I have received a letter out of the blue regarding my ppi claim that was rejected in 2010, is this to do with the Pevin ruling do you think?

I have a form to complete, it's such a long time ago I am struggling to remember some of the information required... Any advice?

Cheers

I've posted this on another thread. I had the same letter/questionnaire at the beginning of April. Mine was for a Dorothy Perkins store card ( same provider ) and my claim was declined in 2010. Luckily I had kept all of original documentation which I'm sure helped . Sent it all off and they rang me yesterday to say the claim had been upheld , further details of redress to follow.
It may be worth calling them to say you are having trouble remembering . I'm not sure if it helped my claim by having the copies of the documentation I originally sent them

The Plevin ruling was related to commission payments, nothing to do with Santander - there are several threads mentioning this, seems Santander just happened to decide to review cases

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

My sister has had a form the same from Santander about her Evans card. She filled it in and included her Dorothy Perkins card too. Shes had a letter for both saying its been upheld and being recalculated due to the recent case.

After she had her form, I decided to try and reclaim my Evans card ppi which was declined for the same reasons as my sisters in 2010 and I've had a letter saying their original decision stands and I'm getting nothing. Seriously don't understand that :(

2 different sales, cannot have been 100% identical and possible a complaint reason (or reasons) you used was identified as demonstrably wrong losing credibility

Hi thanks, did you happen to 'sign up' to ppi in store, and did you receive advice?

The shop assistant told me I had to sign in the box where the cross was and didn't explain what it was for ( more interested in selling the discount on purchases ) I asked for a copy of the original form when I made the complaint in 2010. I was unemployed at the time and I also had to get proof of that from HMRC to send to them with the original complaint. I had lots of correspondence backwards and forwards then the claim was eventually rejected. Luckily I kept copies of all the documents I originally sent them
    Hope this helps .

The situation fairchi44 was in is very different and very specific - being unemployed means the PPI would never have paid out thus it was a miss-sale, the card should never have been offered either as fairchi44 may have been tempted to spend more than they could afford because of the discount without an employed income to cover them - so the sale was ultimately (correctly) refunded even though Santander could wash their hands of it as they didn't sell it.

Selling the PPI in stores was very common but it is NOT "advice" in the financial sense, the store sales staff were not qualified to give financial advice, just told by management to get customers to tick a box without knowing the implications - it's a "non-advised" sale

  • Hi I am new to this site. Yesterday I found my original papaerwork for a Debenhams card I took out in 2002. I see that I signed for PPI. I do remember some years later I cancelled the PPI but carried on with the card until about 2010. Will I be able to claim and if so how. Who do I contact and where would I get a form from. I do not have any of my statements from when I first opened the account back in 2002.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Many Thanks Dilys

You complain to whoever sold it to you first but they won't have been regulated then.
It was probably supplied by GE Money then taken over by Santander.

Debenhams\Santander\Genworth rejected my wife's claim for PPI refund in May 2015. We have applied to FOS, but would be very interested to hear on what grounds the opening 2 posters have since had their claims upheld.
    Thanks
