Thanks for all the responses. To update, the parcel was actually received two days later, within the timescale provided on the company website. There were no issues with this Hermes delivery (there have been issues and lost deliveries on the past).

To clarify, whilst I do not have the exact wording of my query, I was absolutely clear that I was not chasing the item as I was aware of the 2-5 business days stated on the website. I was simply asking for a tracking number as this had not been provided and I hadn't yet received a confirmation of dispatch. I see such confirmation as a pretty standard element of an online transaction so I was just a little concerned that there was a delay as I hadn't received this.

In no way did indicate, hint or otherwise that I was unsatisfied with the time taken for delivery. In my view the retailer wrongly thought that I was. The reference to date of order, distance to deliver etc was completely unnecessary and irrelevant to my question.

Anyway, I've received my goods and I'm happy with them. I will not be naming and shaming, but I will not be using the website again.

Message seems fine to me and IMO, polite. I don't think any offence was intended in message at all.

Yes I think you should go back to those websites that don't manage to deliver the items you have ordered on time ;)

Sometimes when replying to numpty customers it is tempting to be sarcastic but the customer is always right so I often write the sarky one delete it and then keep it factual. Most normal couriers can deliver in the UK next business day and Amazon deliver on Sunday and Bank Holidays so they are taking the wotsit if they offered next day and especially if the OP paid for courier.

No there not as evidenced frequently on here! I had no hesitation in correcting customers who used to spout this rubbish when I worked in retail.

I'll stick to websites that keep me updated on the order/dispatch/delivery process once they have taken my money. Thanks.
